Got an 02 Dispatch 1.9d and last week whilst driving along in a 30 zone the bugger just cut, started again straight away and ran ok, but again today it cut out just a minute or so after pulling off from work.
Obviously this could be quite serious if I was on a hill or roundabout for example as the steering and brakes fail.
The battery terminals are secure, but other than that im at a loss, any suggestions ?

Air in fuel supply?

Could be the fuel pump. If it happens again reliably, crack the injectors and see if fuel comes out when you turn it over

Update, just been flat-bedded to the garage because it wont hold revs for more than a few seconds, mechanic is 99% fuel pump and/or fuel filter.

If you get stuck I've still got the Lucas fuel pump from when I converted mine to a Bosch pump

I'm maybe a little late to the party
In the past I've come across some fuel filters that were so dirty they allowed very poor or no flow of fuel.............
(Usually preceded by poor performance unless you got a right bad fill)
In one vehicle we had there obviously had been an issue with the stag pipe in the tank and had been shortened or slightly shorter replacement fitted ............
Any thing less than a quarter tank on the guage created issuses especially on twisty roads, roundabouts, junctions ETC............
On Motorway you could run it down much further without issues but never chanced our luck how far...........
Although we fathomed out an issue ..........
We only discovered the reason when we were changing tank after a incident

My 2.0 HDI Dispatch used to cut out suddenly at any speed, it did it once in the middle lane of the M60, but would always start again straight away. That was the electric stop on the pump causing it, an easy replacement, and it has been fine since.
Pete.

Stop solenoid?

I had this problem, had to pay 200 euros to get taken off the motorway. Fuel cut off solenoid wasn't getting power. I rewired the thing to a 12v on the coolant resevoir. It's connected to the ignition. But you should def test it.

Bit of a late response but it was fixed the next day, the problem was a corroded wire in the loom apparently. Now driving perfectly.
