It only says that list is commonly seen motorcaravan external features that might guide the DVLA to a decision it does not say that all motor caravans have these or must have these, could be construde that they want it to look enough like a motor caravan to be a motor caravan.
So for instance Muffin 1 my last camper had 3 windows, had an awning bar on the side and motor caravan graphics down both sides but did not have the high roof.
I guess they are trying to avoid all these stealth campers.

That could be true

When was that registered? I know I've done two identical Dispatches and the one earlier this year was rejected. They've definitely changed
2000 Citroen Dispatch 1.9TD XUD9 Camper Conversion
1999 Citroen Dispatch 1.9D DW8 Disassembled Camper Conversion
1996 Peugeot 806 1.9TD XUD9 Spare vehicle
1998 Citroen Synergie 1.9TD XUD9 Snapped timing belt

It was before May so it might be more difficult now, will find out soon as I will try and register Muffin 2 when its done, that will have windows all round, graphics and awning but obviously no high roof.

Stangely they also state
"The body type does not affect the insurance category of the vehicle, or have any effect on speed limits"
Regarding speed limits, this makes no sense at all

I see and agree with what your saying to a point but as per norm their expressing a certain amount of ambiguity ............... Which is fine and open to interpretation even by them after the fact..............
"This list describes the external features which are commonly seen in motor caravans, and it is intended to provide guidance on what DVLA expects to see when considering your application:"
I'm not wholly convinced............. And what if I don't want lots of swirly stripes on my van or a high top ......... The section(Current body type) before states unless your vehicle is regestered as and on this list it will not even be considered............ how many MPV's or a livestock carrier have a high top ................... (I thought a specially fitted van was maybe a Motor Home/Caravan)
As I said "I'm not wholly convinced"............ Getting very cynical in my Dotage ........... I wonder why?

I am not convinced either, the gent I spoke to at the festival this year converts large high top vans to full conversions for a living mostly Sprinters and LT35s and he had been advised by the DVLA that they were unlikely to allow any more of his conversions to be re-registered and thinking on those guidlines his vans fulfilled all those guidlines.

It just gets dafter. And regarding the speed limits, needs urgent clarification.
And how high does a high top need to be. How about someone of very restricted height, a 4' person forced to have a 6' high top? Extreme example perhaps but entirely feasible and makes a mockery of the law.
And the demand for "motor caravan-style graphics on both sides" is just unbelievable.
I joked earlier about having stickers saying "this is a motorhome", but now realise they would be rejected as not a recognizable motor caravan-style.
And a compulsory awning rail! It is absurd to deem a popular accessory to be a mandatory fitting. What next, compulsory inane moto stickers, a ridge monkey in every van, a minimum of one dog and an inability to understand single track road driving?
