In a week i will be swapping the back door over. Handle is fooked but internals seem fine and central locking works. What bits you after?

Casper - Gonna change the barrel first, it isn't spinning but not locking.

Couple of wires in there that go from barrel to internal door handle and central locking motor. Get someone to work the central locking while you listen for the motor. If motor working but door not locking i would say the plastic pin at the end of the wire is bust. My O/S sliding door is like this. If barrel is turning with key but not locking the pin on the wire for that may also be burst (if that wire works the same way). This picture is pulled from Google but they look like this and found at the end of the wires.

the key turns stiffly but only 30 Degs each way, it makes a noise like the motor is being forced.

neither way engages the lock..

does this sound like a cylinder problem?

TBH No. Mine makes the same noise when using the key in the back door but no central locking click just the forced whine noise. Looks like the key only turns less than a 1/4 the way round anyway. I would be getting it opened up and checking further. I take it the key will not turn with any key indicating the barrel internals are fine.

First get somone to work the central locking so you can listen for the motor. That was if working it eliminated electricity getting to motor. Does door open OK from inside handle? If yes that wire is OK. You have a short wire from handle to lock. Get a screwdriver and slide it in the door look at the same angle as the strike pin so it locks. Does it open with the handle? If no and handle is very light i would say the wire from handle to lock has fell off. Worse case plastic lug snapped. See this ebay picture

The one on the left where the barrel would slide in you see a lug of plastic with a hole for the wire? The lug is thinner on the back door. Investigate as you may have ordered locks unnecessary.

Those plastic bits at teh end of the wires i am on about. This picture is them in place on the side door

Rubbish plastic goes hard over the years and snaps easy.

But thankyou for the useful info - I'll get the whole thing off this weekend and have a poke!

I needed the barrels anyway as theyre starting to go and want everything ship-shape before we go! also when I get the lock working I will have a matching barrel...

BTW. If it turn out your plastic lug that the lock wire goes onto on the door handle has snapped you can have my buggered one and when all say buggered all that the problem is when you pull to open the bottom of the handle comes all the way out. It should have a pin to prevent this. You will see what i mean when you get yours open and i think it comes out so you can swap it over. Anyway ill throw nothing out for a few weeks and may swap parts over at the weekend if i get time.

Right, last post as i need to go. Having a look at the handle i am about to use. This is the back door one and circled is the part that when you pull the handle this arm pulls the lock open. The wire must have fell off or that arm is snapped. You will see when you get it upen that arm comes out. If needed remember i have the one in the van that can be used.

removed my door lock yesterday, all the wires were attached and working, so I wiggled and banged it a bit and put it back together and now it works (no central locking but I don't care about that)!

So looks like I wont be needing yours yet, although something tells me I should maybe get it just in case...

Wonder if you had a sticky locking pin on the barrel and it was stuck open. Bloody just snapped my N/S sliding door handle sad off to the scrap yard later sad

I think what it is , is the side pins in the barrel get stuck with dirt or lose the springiness over time and dont spring out to lock in place. I think there is one on the other side also

See the part at the top of picture. This works the mechanism rods through push/pull arms on the lock. You see where it sits in this picture

That is the inside looking out so still quite new looking. On the other side where the end of you barrel goes in it may look like this

See how the plastic is worn? This will prevent the lock from pulling the arms to work the rods. This is only slightly worn and works fine. Its the one out my van. As your was spinning i would say the pins were stuck or the pin locking holes are worn.
