The heater blower in my van hasn't worked since the first time used it. I decided after 3 yeas it was about time I fixed it.
I did manage to get the old one out but it took considerable persuasion. Laying head first, upside down, in the footwell with blood from my gashed thumb driping onto my glasses was extreamly uncomfortable.
As the rectifier had blown and the motor was stiff and noisy I decided to replace the whole unit. £49 new seemed a good price when second hand ones go for far more and the resistor alone would have been £30. Pattern one though so we shall see.
I doubt very much that I will get the new one in without risking damage. Should I perhaps have dismantled the dash?

Moped the blood up and had another look in better light.
I just needed to bend a couple of brackets a bit and it went back reasonably easy.

Yeah this sounds familiar - I think I had to saw off a few bits of plastic under the dash to get mine out!
