Are Some Spares Getting Scarce?

Saw a post recently that seemed to suggest that some replacement PAS hoses are getting hard to find. Was wondering what other parts are getting scarce for our vehicles? And what is parts availability like from Fiat/Peugeot/Citroen dealers?
Any parts worth stockpiling?

Re: Are Some Spares Getting Scarce?

A concern I share woodbine.  Hoping to get a few more years out of mine yet and at 1998 it's an early one.

I haven't had any problems so far but haven't needed anything unusual,  just high turnover things like injectors, water pump, brake parts, etc.

Although I notice patern parts are increasingly available from eastern europe.  Perhaps the good european wide sales will make it worth while to keep producing?  I recently replaced my heater blower for a new pattern one for less than unknown quality second hand ones often go for.

Re: Are Some Spares Getting Scarce?

Normaly manufacturers are required to maintain spares for vehicles up to 10 yrs after production ends.............
But as OAT says with European wide popularity and the fact that certain items probably were used on the next Generation also ..........

But Yes I do agree on things peculiar to the first generation as mine is (12 yrs out of prodution already)............

Depending on how quickly they start to disappear from our and European streets will equal how profitable it is to keep a supply ...............

(Think Cavaliers, Vectra B's, Escorts, Sierras etc polluted our streets but disappeared over night or so it seemed)
I think we should be good for Easily 5 yrs yet but certain stuff (What?) maybe getting thin by 10yrs from now

Based on ... My 306 is just about 20yrs and out of production about 19yrs and so far so good no issues ............

Athough the elephant in the room ............... environmental movement

But that's true for all fossil fueled vehicles...........

Re: Are Some Spares Getting Scarce?

For reference, my play thing while I'm in Aus is a 1997 Xantia and Citroen are still able to supply the catalytic converter, rear silencer and suspension seals (for the hydropneumatic suspension). I gather they don't sell the spheres, but there are plenty of third party suppliers. Granted they want silly money for all of them so I've got them elsewhere. But still options exist.

I have not had any issues yet, by the way you should never just buy a power steering line anyway as any hydraulic engineering company can knock you one up for very little compared with the manufacturer.

Thanks for the info. I remember replacing one of the rubber and metal pipes on the PAS when the van was about 5 years old. Remembering it being a bit steep from main dealer. If another needs replacing, I will make sure I get one made at an engineering company.
