Dispatch 2013 Electrical Fault

Hello,

I was driving along the dual carriageway just now and the computer bit went blank and the fuel guage and engine temp. guage stopped working.  It may have gone into limp mode as well.  Lights were still working.
I pulled over and turned off and back on.  The computer said airbag problem.  I turned it off and on again and it all seemed fine again!
Can anyone tell me what is going on!?
Thanks

Re: Dispatch 2013 Electrical Fault

Hello and welcome.  smile

No experience at all with the later, ecu controlled models beyond the fact that they often generate confusing and untraceable errors.

The mention of intermittent airbag problems sounds familier though.  I think we had a post on that recently.

A quick search finds a couple of mentions.  Suggestion seem to be to check the airbag control thingy under the passenger seat.  They can get quite damp.

If you search for airbag you should find a few mentions.  Try the 96 - 06 vans section too.

Re: Dispatch 2013 Electrical Fault

Hi Father Stone, welcome to the forum.

I see you say its running ok at the moment, I would get it plugged in to a diagnostic device as the fault may well still be in the memory.

Diagnostic device is my first port of call when it looks like an electronic fault.

Re: Dispatch 2013 Electrical Fault

Hello and Welcome ...........
I'm With O A T and Anchor1979 on this ...........

When it comes to ECU controled diesels I understand what's meant to happen but I'm something of a Ludite in it's process of why what where and how ......

Assuming air bag module is situated as a MK1 like O A T mentions it'll be under floor mat in a recess on floor .....
And as Anchor1979 says get a diagnostic done {get a starting point if poss} as "it may be ok just now" but it's bound at the most inconvenient point to make a return

{being French helps but on "modern stuff it's not exclusive}

Re: Dispatch 2013 Electrical Fault

Thanks for the replies.
I spoke to the garage earlier and he suggested it might be the battery on the way out.  Have tested and replaced it and mnaged to turn the fault lights off using a OBD thingy.
All seems fine now.  Hope this helps someone in a similar situation.
Cheers

Re: Dispatch 2013 Electrical Fault

It might well return in which case I'll pursue the air bag module route.  Always good to know about possible problems in advance.

Re: Dispatch 2013 Electrical Fault

good to hear you got the van working again. i’d also if it ever returns look at your earth battery cable where it is grounded. remove clean all contacts and make sure it has a clean fitment to the grounding area, intermittent faults like this can be both the battery and the ground cable as i’ve had this before i always have a look over it when getting new vehicles, i clean the contact, the grounding area and the threads of bolt and once refitted i put a little bit of vaseline on top to stop moisture getting to it and rusting it in the future
