I have always painted my wheels and yet to lose one however,,, I am not all that anal as others and paint them when on the van/car so the studs get colour coded also.
Thought (Oh No) would it not be more prone for the N/S to come loose rather than O/S. Im sure this is why my Convoy is reverse thread on the N/S

This has been a bone of contention for quite some time............
I'm not for getting into ...............
The experts say that the wheel nut is held in place and stays tight with correct torque ...............
The N/S wheel is going to loose the nut quicker only if it becomes slack because of the rotation of the wheel if a standard thread is used rather than the Left hand thread/reverse thread........
I assume your LDV uses a spigot stud and nut being dual wheels on rear and load rating
Thanks for the tip about painting vaz, I am just considering doing mine.
I'll go with casper and say if painting on vehicle and everything gets a coating= No worries...........
If painting off the vehicle use a spray as it'll be so fine a coat it should be Ok .............
I'm sure the trouble is connected to a brush painted hammerite type quite thick coat...........
A friend had the wheels on his V70 Volvo refurbed and powder coated a few years back .........
I'm positive they ground powder coating off the stud fitting holes/inserts in the alloy wheels for that same reason ...................

Thanks for the feedback Tiree. For the benefit of others, I had my front nearside wheel come loose twice. The first time was just a matter of tightening the bolts. The next time I thought I’d better have a closer look. It turned out to be a seized caliper causing the hub to get hot. Not enough to make it slow down, but enough to heat it up. Freed off the caliper and replaced the pads and all was well,.............until something on the other caliper meant that both needed replacing. Well, 270K wasn’t to bad a life.

Glad to hear it's fixed, and an easy fix at that! Even if it is a little disappointing it was so straightforward but hey, back on the road!
