Hi all, I have a 2008 fiat scudo van 1.6 90hp.
Long story short the garage has put a new engine in it. I’ve done about 300 miles since having it and noticed a couple of things and would like to know if anyone has an idea what it could be.
Firstly when accelerating and changing gear it sounds like the accelerator is still depressed at the same time as the clutch for a second or two even though it’s not. My first thought was that the accelerator cable is sticky and could do with a bit of lube but I’m now thinking it’s an electric throttle so this can’t be the case if it is?
Next when cruising at 70mph it seems to almost be cutting in and out but not if that makes sense, almost like it’s hitting a sticky peice of road. It’s not losing revs or making any noises it just feels like it’s being pushed forwards then held back. I do carry a water tank in it with about 500l in so my immediate thought is that it’s the water sloshing back and forward but as it only happens around 70 I figured I’d ask in case anyone’s had the same as I’m writing this anyway haha. (I will be emptying it at some point and checking)
Anyway my main query is the throttle/clutch thing.
Thanks a lot!

I think the sticky throttle could just be that and is slow to respond to your input ............ Being fly by wire I think there needs some sort of correlation between pedal and throttle body with a clean signal in between (No damp off shoes, dirt ingress or corroded pins etc)............... It doesn't sound like the garage did even a half decent job in road testing with the final finessing in either department before returning to you.............
I for a number of years on and off drove an artic with 25,000 ltrs of milk, the tanker had two compartments and they were without any baffles to help with surge.... This is so the Milk doesn't turn to butter..............
The only time I noticed it was a "Live Load" was during Braking and acceleration or when out side the chip shop or stopped at traffic light I became the Nodding Dog that folk used to put on rear parcel shelf..................
I know empty the Unit & Tank were 7 tons but I think the heavier base vehicle part is balanced out that 25,000 ltrs is slightly more than 50 ltr which I would say you'll notice aboard but not when in constant flight............
Maybe you need to return it under warranty especially if it's unfit for purpose

Being smooth like sticky tar and non mechanical suggests dodgy engine management to me. Perhaps a CPU or sensor problem?
Anyone think a tooth out with timing could do this?
Is it a 100% identical engine replacement? Where all old electrics, ancillaries refitted? Sounds like nothing much is wrong if it does 70 ok. Almost like its not supplying quite enough fuel under acceleration or fast cruising demands.
I too would be going back to politely ask them to have a look. Could be easy for someone to honestly not notice if they were unfamiliar with the vehicle.
