I would have had the wifes car, conora convoy and the dispatch all in a few weeks. Big Bonus. Convoy wants some work but it was getting MOT'd to just sit out my house till i convert it. Dispatch will want tyres soon but got breathing space now. May just MOT the dispatch in three month though to split them up.

Re: Extra six month MOT

Mines wasn't due until the 17th but I had it done on Tuesday while waiting for news from the govt. So if I had waited another 24 hours  I would have got another 6 months. I wonder if it had failed would the have given the extension.

Re: Extra six month MOT

I cant see this being a six month thing. They must have failed to say during lock down or something. Technically due to the way it looks if your MOT is due on say Oct 1st you get an extra six month

Seen somewhere that it was 12 months - so up to 30th March 2021.
Guess we we find out next week when they update the database

Initially They were only touting 3 Months for LGV's (HGV) which works on a different format to Class 4 (car MOT's) this was to enable deliveries to continue being made and not end up hopefully with a shortage of vehicles (While Gov testing stations Will be closed) Lorries effectively Can't be tested early or at any time..........

Obviously It was seen that Key workers still need to get to where they are required and 6 months was extended to MOT's to ease things (Grease the wheels) ..........

I'll go with tee-cee that I also saw a mention of over a 12 month period (Fandabbydosey if your due on 30/03/2021 and you tested a month ago) but will agree with Casper in that  it could be revoked just as quick........
(I'll also go as far as if your using your extension you could be liable to much more stringent checks than normal during this time period ..........{one of very few vehicles sticks out like a sore thumb})

Or should we be reading into that and be less optomistic that this will be done and dusted in 3 or 6 months (More like a minimum).... unless your Trump ! big_smile

Are you not getting mixed up with this line in the original BBC link?

The new law will be introduced on 30 March when it will come into immediate effect for 12 months.

Re: Extra six month MOT

Im luck (if you can look it it that way) i am still allowed to work and healthy ish so can get out daily and still see people even though they ate 65 foot away. No doubt plod will stat pulling folk soon to see where they are going but reluctant to put sign's on my van.

The MOT is due on that van soon so as i say, two new tyres and that is running fine anyway so could save us a bob or two as the wife cant work so reduced income. However i did manage to get 18 rolls of four ply yesterday big_smile

Oddly the MOT check landing page states "MOT extensions are being processed in date order."

However the link on that page to https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus … march-2020 states

"Check your MOT expiry date has been extended
Your MOT expiry date will usually be updated on the day your MOT is due to expire. However, it might be done up to a few days before."

This would suggest that that they are not going to update all the expiry dates at once, which would then give them room to reverse the decision at a later date

As suspected if we get through this quicker than 12 months then................

Re: Extra six month MOT

No Vaz2121 wife is liek me self employed but just started this about a year ago. Dont think she will get much if any with the 80% scheme. Anyway. My new Convoy what runs out of MOT on the 2nd April has had its six month extension but the dispatch what runs out on the 21st has not. Saying that the computer will be running on overload so may take a while.

Last if any good...........

My partner has had a letter in from the NHS now saying WE are Both classed as Vulnerable (Something to do with Flu jabs ETC) and She at least is on 12 weeks lockdown : So we have more plans change to talk about again at the W/end.............

Although I haven't been out/away for a wee while..........
Guess WHO's classed as Key Worker .............
(I wonder could we be called up like the TA)

Yes : DVLA Computer will be running it's T*** off

I would think the computer would crash if they try do do them all at once. My convoy is done but was due on the 2nd April. Not the Dispatch yet what is due on the 21st. My other convoy is about the 21st September but i think if i expect a six month on that i am taking the Pash.

Re: Extra six month MOT

That is my Dispatch just got its extra months. My original MOT dont run out till the 23rd of this month yet my new MOT is the 2nd October. Looks like the start of October may be a cut of date as my Convoy runs out on the 1st after the extension.

So i chanced my luck and send an email to the DVLA quoting from there web site that and van, car or motorbike who's MOT runs out after the 30th March will get an extra six month MOT. They must have looked at mine as it was a good 20 days short. They have amended it and now runs out on the 21st October. Cheeky git big_smile

Re: Extra six month MOT

I see Admiral are giving £25 rebates on insurance.   Hopefully the rest will follow.

I still think we should have a road tax rebate too.  After all it is an excise duty paid for the right of access to and use of public roads with a motor vehicle.  Which we are currently being very firmly instructed to keep to an absolute minimum by the very people we have already paid for this privilage.

Can't be right.
