Aftermarket air filter and oil catch can mod

Hi everyone wondering if anybody has fitted a aftermarket air filter or oil catch can (rocker cover/pcv valve end and bypassed the air intake to turbo?

I think the layout of the airbox and fixtures not to mention the tab on the airbox connector non existent in function is a bit of a rubbish design. not to mention the space it takes up and also vibrates (ok rant over lol)

basically i was thinking along the lines of fitting a aftermarket cone style filter and modifying the pipe at maf sensor side. Also fitting a oil
breather catch can at side of engine.

If anyone has done anything like this would be nice to hear what you have done. Not sure how much effect it will have on the running of van depending on filter etc but worth a ask to see if anyone has done similar
thanks in advance  big_smile

You've peaked my interest on the subject dispatcher. I recently replaced that section of pipe from the turbo back to just after the connection you mention, and even a brand new one doesn't really sit and catch properly.

Re: Aftermarket air filter and oil catch can mod

Hopefully people can put some input/feedback into if people have ever done so or the pros and cons as to me i can’t see why this isn’t possible and would be so much better. If i only had a spare pipe to hand i’d get the tools out and see what i can come up with. catch cans seem reasonably price on the bay. however i think there would be some adaption on the airfilter side. Sure i can knock something up smile

Anchor when i put the connection for the pipe to pcv valve/rocker cover i fitted a oversize o ring in place and it’s super snug. may be worth getting a bigger fatter o ring if it’s sliding out? Like you say tho never really fits right over the tab but that cured my wobble/slipping out dripping scenario

Seen this on YouTube, our engine. Think there is a kit available too but not sure how much modification would be needed.

Re: Aftermarket air filter and oil catch can mod

Thanks for the link on vid, looks fairly easy with the right parts, that’s along the lines of what i’d like to do although do think with the air intake i’d like to do away with that and i don’t have a battery under the hood my one is located inside the van at drivers footwell so have a lot of room for brackets fittings etc there so that’s a bonus, thinking a more flexible hose for the catch can would be best and the ford fitment for the crankcase breather output looks alot better fitment than standard too smile

Yeah with you in that dispatcher, I think it's the same engine just in a different vehicle.

Be interesting to see how much could get the right parts for. Had a little look for an aftermarket air filter that may fit and perhaps be better than the standard one but not  come across anything suitable as yet.

I've found a K&N induction kit for the PSA 1.6 hdi, although it looks pretty straight forward to fit it is a little on the expensive side at £188.39

Induction kit K&N

A slightly cheaper one
