Converting Headlights For Europe?

I'm going to be taking my 2004 Scudo with the newer, larger headlights to Europe. It will be long term, poss permanent move. What are my best options to convert the headlights for use in Europe, either temporary (cheap) or more permanent?

If I wanted a more permanent solution, what do I need to change? Whole headlight, lens, something in the headlight, reflector (if this is even accessable?)?

Get a set of lights from Ebay.de or fr and the likes.

As Casper says... or for a cheaper, temporary fix, fit adhesive beam adapters.  You can buy them separately or in a kit containing all items required in Europe.  Checklist here:-

Also consider the very variable winter tyre regulations in the areas you intend to visit.  :-

I expect by January, visas may also become an issue.  I was considering Portugal myself but waiting for clarity re the Brexit and Covid confusion.

Thanks to both of you for your replies. Will have a look at the lights on German and French Ebay. Should I look for Fiat new/used or are the pattern ones OK?

Not even thought about tyres. I'm off to Czech Republic and it looks like they're mandatory. What do people normally do, have two sets of wheels, one with normal tyres then swap them for set with winter tyres in November? Can you drive on winter tyres all year? Are they expensive?

Maybe good idea to start looking for 4 good used steel 15" wheels so I can get some winter tyres fitted to them.

Iv'e fitted a Set of Mud N snows for what turnd out a failed trip and Covid life didn't help and I'm "Running" them through summer also .................

It might be worth your while checking out All season tyres instead of the inveastment of two sets of wheels tyres and subsequent replacement of ..........

Only thing I'd say is get tyres with the 3 peaks rating and winter or All seasons get much harder and less effective at their job below 3 mm.........

My suggestion is if going for All seasons get them New at winter start burn them off through summer and replace again for winter !.............

My Tyres are I'd class as full blown Winter...

These Mud & Snows have a really quite aggressive pattern ...........
So much so they Howl a bit........

And obviously help enormously on damp grassy pitch ups

Winter tyres really don't do hot summers well (Softish rubber and tread pattern more suited to cold wet weather)

I bought these deliberatly as we were planning a winter trip Northward towards Orkney or Shetland Via the likes of The Cairngorms, But Circumstance meant that aspect never happend in the end, Then to Cut a long story short Covid started to play a part in it all............

All season tyres are not quite as good as winter or quite as good as summer tyres in that enviroment either, But do a good enough job in both a bit like a Jack of all trades and the fact they have the 3 peak rating means they meet minimum standard for snow  & ice

I would suggest looking at the Toyo tread pattern although qualifies for 3 peaks snow flake symbol and is obviously good enough performance in snow & ice conditions... it's tread pattern more orientated to ward a summer pattern with the long straight channels...............

Haven't done the maths but doesn't that just make the bulbs expensive, especially as you don't need them?

I will be interested to hear what you do about tyres.  It made my head spin when I looked into it.  Even when I made a decision, many weren't available in my size of 14".

Vaz - that video link was good. Nexen all season or winter are recommended budget, but Nokian even better.

OAT - Yes, tyres are a minefield. Unless I've got this wrong, the headlight in your link is a single light at approx £60 plus £13 for post = approx £73 for one light. In my link, it's £111 for two lights, no postage = £55 each light and you get the bulbs thrown in too. Unless I've got the wrong end of the stick.

I think you are right woodbine.  I was looking down a list of pairs and looks like I slipped into a single.

Pretty sure there were pairs for less though.

Out of interest, do you know how the headlights come out. Had a very quick look the other day, and saw the two bolts on top. Is there another bolt underneath? If yes, do I go around the back to unscrew?

I'm not 100% sure about headlight Removal ..............
But a little birdie tells me there's bolts hiden on botom of headlight covered by bumper ...........

So probably needing to lower bumper a bit to gain access ................
