Cheers i got a nice tight one out the scrap yard but for the life of me i cant get the adjuster to follow through the door. Its to fat on the doner van so i cut it off but the one on my van wont come through either. I dont have the privilege to cut that one as i need it.

Re: Side Mirrors

Managed to make a cracking tight mirror using bits from both and fitted it working OK. Came to adjust the thing i noticed it was no sitting correct in its click open position. Thinking oh well, it was only £5 out the scrap yard i ordered a new one from your link Vaz. Today had another look at the one i built. Did i not put the bloody three fixing screws in the wrong position. Bloody thing is perfect and i have a new one in the post  sad

Re: Side Mirrors

Yeah ...I know that feeling

I resurrected a Golf last year that I'd bought my Ex-misses in 99/2000, which had been handed down to my daughter and then left in a hedge for 8 years..... Did brakes, pipes ETC ...was convinced it would need a brake balance valve... bound to be seized,  N.O.S. and £45 lighter found the 20 year old one fitted to it was perfect.... free as a bird ......B'strd.... still got that on the shelf ......Maybe MOT time!!!

Re: Side Mirrors

Hi, i had the same problem when i replaced N/S mirror with new from ebay, fine until 50mph then vibrates.
The only answer is to find genuine second hand or new OEM from dealer
And as you say feeding the cable through is really difficult! but possible, it took me about an hour with string, pliars, blood sweat and tears.
Good luck,
Glen

Re: Side Mirrors

Think i susses it Glen. See the top right of this door card where the two screw holes are?

$_1.JPG

Just below that area when ou get the card off you will see a nut. Take it right off and push the bolt you see right through till it sits flush with the hole. This opens up the door skin allowing the mirror adjuster through but yeah. The hole to bring it back can be fiddly. I have a hooked tool to adjust a motorbike head bearings what fits to pull perfectly.  smile

Re: Side Mirrors

Sorry just re read your post, "once door card removed" does this not dent the door outer skin?

No. Its only about 1cm. Just enough to get the adjuster through. I think its the runner/guide for the window glass what looks like is attached to the outer skin. Hard to tell as you only have that 4cm (ish) hole to work though.
