My van has a strange, howling sound from the exhaust system. If anyone remember those colorful plastic tubes we used to swirl around when we where kids... that's the sound my exhaust makes. Most noticeable under load, and around 2-2500 RPM. Possible catalytic converter failing? (hasn't come around to killing it yet)

Can't remember what vehicle but years ago the tail pipe started to grow a beard it turned out to eventually stop engine from running ....starting
It turned out to be the guts of the back box which obviously we had to change.....
It tended to during failing sound a bit like a strangled Fa** ......
Until no go and blocked pipe .........
Also had a Cat's inards break lose it was more of a rattle as it moved about .......... same outcome......... replacement
In both instances vehicle power was at times was noticeably down........
