Anyone self tinted windows with the film from ebay?

Firstly what "strength" do I want

Secondly, any tips?

5% VLT was what i ordered but the company ran out and sent me my money back. Yet to get round to doing it myself. Think the 5% was almost privy. Have a look round Google as some of the sites gave you pictures of a van with different shades to make your choice easier.

I'm not 100% sure but I believe my side window are 20% light through and rear doors are 70% light through.... Is that 20% lvt & 70% lvt ..... vlt ...?

Check our photo's on here you can get an idea....... I want the rear doors darkened to match side any thing darker is just a PITA for reversing at night ..... IMHO

1 other thing buy a decent film cheap dark stuff goes purple quite quickly

I'm waiting to see if Aldi/Lidl are going to repeat there window tint again..... It turned out Ok

Watch a few You tube vids......and practice/patience

Thanks guys - I've bought some cheap 15 or 20% stuff from amazon for around £8 so it'll be some practice and if it works - great.

My wife will get the job of applying it! I'm very slap-dash when it comes to things like that!

Will get some pics up in my conversion post soon.

Hi, funny we're actually going to have another go today!

At the moment the few Windows we have done aren't properly stuck at some of the edges/corners. But are otherwise pretty good. Use the blade they send you to thoroughly scrape the window. Wash it with soapy water (we washed them before the scraping too actually) then when it's still wet you can apply it pretty well (having cut a piece roughly to shape) with the plastic smoother(?) they give you. Then cut round the edges to size.

I stress that this is only how we did it and there are videos online that may be of more use as, as I say we had issues and are going to have another go today!

Right well I can't say we have learned much, we're just going to accept that it won't be perfect. However I got a good tip off a mate, first you apply it to the outside of the window and hairdryer it so it aquires the shape of the curved glass, avoiding creases when you apply it to the inside.

Think that was a waste of eight quid. Failed on the splitting apart the sheets. Looks and feels like one sheet to me sad

think it's a different kind tbh, this stuff just adheres to a wet window as far as I know, no backing etc...

OK. Got it apart and i bought this from your Amazon link so you had better double check before fitting. One side is stickier than the other. The smother side is the peel off and bin. To get apart use two bits of sellotape, one each side

1 minute 43 seconds for test correct side and 7 min 17 seconds for the tape split.

I refused to be beating by something so simple. Ordered another roll but i was dicking about with what i had left thinking ill have a trial run before the new stuff arrives. Had i known i had so much i would have taken more care. Hope it comes off easy

BTW i have a ghost in my van. See all that red through the window. There is/was nothing red in there at the time. Spooky

I pulled some tint off the front windows of a 307 we had and used a razor blade scraper thing.... but found using a heat gun on second window was much better while pulling the film off ....... less glue/sh** to scrape/wash off after film was removed

Kind of been to busy to do anything on the van for a couple of weeks but last night thought i would try something different. My little side windows i cut a piece of tint almost to size. Only sprayed the glass inside with soapy water and instantly peeled the tint backing off and lined it up on the glass. Bloody hell that was easy. Great result and no faffing about like in the videos. Ill try and get a picture today to show the result.
