Tyres!

well i have managed to finally scrub down the budget special front tyres. i purposely didn't get the van tracked up because i wanted them gone that much.

So does anyone care for the tyre they use? what does it matter if its the legal depth right?

well I am a bit of a tyre snob so i think i will replace all of them for same brand/type rather than the 2x fronts that are just about on the depth marks.
that will be a good £400 as i am not buying cheap ditch finders sad

i also like to buy a slightly wider tyre. so the standard for my van is 205, but i always go for the next size up of 215. something i have always done. my old Fiat Panda 4x4 originally had 145/80/R13.. however i found that with some nice weller 8 spoke rims i could get 175/60/R13 size tyres to fit which helped grip so much!

so many choices.. do i go for 2 sets of tyres one for winter and one for summer or do i just go for all season?

i have to admit that i am more so leaning towards the Michelins.. even though they are £134 each!

Round and rubbery does me well enough for the van.
Now the bike.......that's a whole different kettle of fish.

Along the same lines here. Look at what is on offer at Black Circles and read the noise and grip rating. Order what is cheap and rate close to a branded one in the rating charts.

I've done 25K on my rears, proper van type tread, zig zag pattern like a transit.
The front ones were £35 each.
I'm not doing excessive speed, I'm not cornering at speed in the wet, so 'round and rubbery' does for me.

Cheap and cheerful for me too.

If I were to experience repeated loss of grip and slides, I think I would adjust my driving style before spending £500 on tyres.

I know I bought new ones rather than my usual part worns and regretted it. I've never had such terrible grip, they spin on any vaguely wet road on inclines

They're commercial tyres, I dunno if it's that but I think I'll be putting these on the back of the van

I've put 195/65- 15s on mine as it originally came with 14s and these I'm led to believe these are of equivalent size..........
I made sure they were weight rated enough for van/people carrier and are of quite an agresive winter pattern as it turned out and howl a bit............
On there because a failed plan/trip and they've been on for about at least a year maybe longer doing next to nothing.............

They were not of the expensive type but I do understand the train of thought for all seasons .......................
Might I suggest what I've done for years on the lorries is New on steer axle and retreads on everything behind.............
(Aircraft will remould tyres up to 5 times if they pass their test)
Retreads/remoulds are much better now and usually dearer than the cheap china imports............
Although I admit on the car or van for that matter I usually just fit four of the same

I went and bought 2x Michelin Agilis Crossclimate. just to see how they perform. I'll put them on the rear axle and try to scrub away the 56mph ones. wonder if they will be more grippy than the ones I'm replacing.. they are just so bad. pulling away when unloaded causes them to spin even when really feathering the throttle in the wet. it's not fun. also braking more so slides to a stop in the wet. I'm glad for the ABS!

Safety first in my opinion.

My MOT is due soon and if need be I'd be going for branded tyres.

so i ended up going with the Mitchelins.. just 2 for now, ill have to wait till next month to get 2 more!

bit overkill.. but should last well.

yeah i had a look on a few. tyre websites i have always found that Tyreleader is the cheapest.

mytyres were £147! i got them from Tyreleader for £129.
