Sold that bike to pay for tin tent. Guy in London seen the advert and liked the bike that much from pictures he sent a bike carrier up to collect it. Looking at the reg number it was still on the road till last September. Not to shabby for an 85 bike

Great fun learning how to install a spilt relay.

We started building the wooden frame for cupboards but the only problem is that its wonky despite being equally measured at both ends...the van floor isn't 100% horizontal. I think I may have to follow the panel walls line. Anyone else noticed this?

Yea the van is higher at the back than the front. Caused me no end of annoyance when I used to sleep with my head at the front. Now I sleep the other way and all is solved.

Looking good, nice to see you're making use of that little shelf above the wheel arch

What's the plan with the wooden beams on the doorway?

Luckily I dismantled the plywood prior to going ahead with placing the leisure battery and diesel heater in the middle of the metal bulk head floor- as the van revealed the secret ledge on the right for the leisure battery and a secrete left hand corner vent for my diesel heater...result!! I think the van designer placed all these things for such things smile

Shit... that slant may play havoc with sleeping...nothing worse than trying to sleep on a slope!

I am looking forward to next weekend to carry on the conversion. I think I will opt for the T&G cladding for the roof and sides. I'm not yet too sure what to go for for the floor and colour scheme too.

Oh the wooden beams on the door way where already in place to allow the side panels to hang to. I may keep them as they can allow me to screw my future T&G cladding too. In addition this would give me space to have insulation and thermo fleece in between the panels.

Hey everyone, I had this same problem but eventually realised that the blower fan is only has power with the engine running and always has alternator voltage whether the blower is on or off. The split relay is built into the van. I just spliced into the positive and grounded next to the battery. Only had to buy a some clips for the leisure battery. Its working like a charm.

My split relay may have a loose connection somewhere as I am not getting any led ight showing when engine is on or off.

I'll check tomorrow and hopefully get more work down on my conversion.

On a plus note I have managed to source a roll of carpet for free for my van ... can't beat that eh smile

Guys,

How safe is it to actually screw into the rear nearside floor for securing cabinet base?

My mate did so on the Off Side when install a leisure cabinet cuboard as you can see in earlier post/pics.

Another friend mentioned it is not advisable due to being on the fuel tank side, he also thinks its a bad idea full stop as there are pipe lines that could sit under the flooring.

Your thoughts on this gentleman?

Look before you leap. I Must have 80 odd screws through the floor of my convoy. Before i put screw one in i was under having a good look and moving any fuel lines or loom away from the line of fire.

Like you battery position can i ask what brand and size battery you managed to fit on the shelf? Also you mention fitting a diesel heater, have you got any photos of the position of the heater?

Hi,

I got the following NCC rated and approved leisure battery from:

I could have got it cheaper on ebay but I wanted somewhere to return it should it goes wrong within the warranty period. The leisure battery has been useful in charging mobile phones up - my mate who hasn't had a leisure battery fitted is always using mine.

I made a unit to house the leisure battery on one side and the other a carpenter made me a unit to house the chinese heater. I do have photos but i can't remember how to upload photos...to taxing on my brain to dig out this info.

I've yet to actually install the heater as I need extra long intake and exhaust pipes to take the fumes out underneath the van.

I think for that shelf a Lithium would be more useful. It all depends on what you use the van for. I am probably going to put a second battery on that shelf somewhere down the line and split the power distribution. Run a LiFePO4 from that shelf and an AGM from under my bed in the main electrics area. The best of both worlds. Charging lithium in cold temperatures can be tricky, but if you also have lead acid, you can use that to heat the lithium battery (via heater pads) enough to accept charge.
