No ignition light on the dashboard.

Hi, I've got no ignition light on the dashboard, I've had the dash off and swapped the bulb with the parking brake light no difference. I've put a voltmeter to the printed circuit board and theres no voltage on it for the ignition light (I checked the voltage to the parking brake light and that shows 12 34v)
Your thoughts of where I should check next are most welcome.
Cheers

Re: No ignition light on the dashboard.

By ignition light, do you mean glow plug, or the battery one?

For the latter, I suppose you could disconnect the alternator, see if it lights up?

It's the battery one, but now you've got me thinking if I've ever seen a glow plug one!
I'll have a look at disconnecting the alternator, is the small wire on the alternator the one that does the battery light?

Re: No ignition light on the dashboard.

From my understanding the light actually comes on if there's a voltage difference between that signal wire and the battery - in either direction. so if the battery voltage is higher than the signal wire you'll still get the light

So probably, but might as well take them all off to be sure?

Re: No ignition light on the dashboard.

Okay I just took the opportunity to check something that's been bothering me for ages. My battery light is always half illuminated - both with and without the engine running.

I took both wires off the alternator, first the signal then the main feed. Made no difference - the light was still half lit

Not sure what to take from that, but I hope it helps you with yours somehow?

Re: No ignition light on the dashboard.

The only thing that's happened to me in the past is that the battery light has come on when the alternator has failed.
I'll try taking the wires off tomorrow and see what happens!

Re: No ignition light on the dashboard.

...but I am still curious about no ignition light on the dashboard. I disconnected the small wire on the alternator and it looks like one wire has been chopped off??

When it's disconnected theres still no ignition light either...

Re: No ignition light on the dashboard.

There should be 12V on the battery side of the light when the ignition is on.
This is the typical diagram https://dispatchexpertscudo.org.uk/foru … 9173#p9173
I'd check the voltage at the fuse (F28 in this case)

I've had a look, I think that mine is a 2004 facelift model as the fuses arent numbered and the layout doesnt match up to the downloadable pdf manual.

Re: No ignition light on the dashboard.

I must check that fuse, another one of those jobs I must get around to doing.

When I initially start up it's not charging. I rev it up a bit and the voltage jumps up to 14v and the heater blower kicks in too.

Looks like the alternator has a some residual magnetism in the rotor - just enough to start the current flowing in the coils.
Since it's working now, I should think that it would carry on working, unless the van is left sitting for a while.
