Dual Sensor Gas Alarm recommendations?

Hi,

Any decent 12v Dual Sensor Gas Alarms (C02, LPG etc) that anyone can recommend for my mini camper?

I am looking to install a Chinese Diesel heater so would like to install a sensor alaem.

Cheers

Re: Dual Sensor Gas Alarm recommendations?

I think that from a known source and with the required certification they are much of a muchness.

Considering their relative cheapness and their potential importance, I went for a brand I had at least heard off "Ring" and from a large supplier.

I also paid a few quid more for one with a display as I was curious to gauge the effects of my then new propane heater.

They have a limited life.  I think 3 years or 10 years.  Not sure if that's battery life, exhaustion of some agent used in the detector, or both.
For the little price difference I went for the 10 year one.  Now on it's 4/5th year and working well.  It did once give a totally false alarm for some reason which I posted about at the time.

I bought a seperate gas alarm but on arrival it requires a constant 12v feed.  I haven't used it as I think something likely to be totally neglected until critically needed, should be independently powered.

Re: Dual Sensor Gas Alarm recommendations?

Hi Oat,

So many cheap ones about that are battery operated and have a replacement date.

There doesn't seem to be any 'Ring' detectors knocking about.

My search will continue for a decent dual sensor alarm. I've been checking the trio gas alarm...seems to be the better one out of them all so far ... but still haven't made my mind up yet.

Re: Dual Sensor Gas Alarm recommendations?

Sorry, just checked, mine is from "Kidde".

btw... battery powered doesn't necessarily mean a cheap or less efficient design.  The idea is that whatever possible power failures or shorts may occur with your 12v system, you can still depend on your self contained and powered alarm.

Also,  the limited lifespan is related to the active life of the detector used.  There is a lot more to them than I realised.  Good wiki article here:-

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_monoxide_detector

Another advantage of being battery powered is that it is portable.  Mine is just attached with HD velcro and has once or twice been used in a tent, in another van, and once when an elderly relative was unnecessarily worried about their new boiler.

I notice that most of the dual purpose ones are CO and "natural gas"!  I don't know if these will pick up propane/butane or not?  They also tend to be 240v with limited battery backup.

Most important thing with gas is I think is ensure effective drop out holes.
