Started noticing that numbers of Mk1 vans are dwindling, as I'm not seeing so many now. Suppose it had to happen as the newest ones are around 15 years old now. I made a point of looking out for them last Friday as I did a 300 mile round trip from Bristol to Oswestry and back - and didn't see one.
Suppose that means more bits from the breakers, but our vans are a rapidly dying breed. I do see the odd one from late 90s, so I reckon with a bit of care and luck I should be able to get around another 5 years out of mine. Wouldn't have a clue what to replace it with, as I reckon they got it right with the Mk1 and anything else will be a more expensive compromise.
Mate is into his Veedubs and keeps on about me getting a T4 or 5, but I don't get the obsession with these things and they fetch silly money. Seem to rust quite well too, which apart from sills, is one of the many things that are good about our vans.

Yes bud and the partprices are silly for silly things, I knew my 04 Dispatch was getting rare lolm but theres many other cars that have similar parts and are cheaper if not searching for van parts, e.g many things/almost everything on my 2004 dw8B dispatch (non turbo) are...
Citroen Berlingo | C2 | C4 | C5 | C6 | C8 | Dispatch | Nemo | Synergie | Xsara & Picasso
Fiat Scudo 1.9 | Ulysee 2.0 / 2.2 / 2.3
Peugeot 106 II | 206 | 207 | 306 | 307 | 406 | 407 | 607 | 806 | 807 | 1007 | Bipper | Expert | Partner
Edit: I love my VW too but size wise a old dispatch has more room in back for a basic camper etc, maybe a lwb MK4 style caddy with a 1.9 PD would be better... BUT they are too slim and not really long enough, I've been there and done that when it comes to comparing and while I love the 1.9 PD engine and know lots about it, I'll stick with whats inthe dispatch till it cracks or the thing wont pass an MOT without too much being spent lol.
My carpet was ruined recently from moving an old engine with oil in it, this is about as clean as I could get the wood
- Bugger it, basic home from home

Agree, some of the parts prices are stupid for vans. Got myself a new set of OE genuine Fiat gear link cables for my Scudo on Ebay for £76 inc delivery which still seems steep, but I think they would be £200 from the main stealer if I understand correctly. Broke a door mirror, shell and glass, few years ago. No pattern parts for mine at the time as it's leccy and heated. Another trip to dealer and £190 poorer after. Had to have one, as you don't realise how much you rely on door mirrors driving a van until suddenly one is missing. Even though my van does have rear-view mirror and glazed rear doors.
Your Dispatch looks like a work in progress.

Well I'll be...check this out, prices on euro site versus what my mate get sthem for (cost) as hes a manager...
HaaS coolant temp sensor, bosch oil filter, bosch fuel filter, 5 litres QX 5/40 (Almost same as PD oil) and x4 hub caps.... £88 something, add website discount code... £66 something.... then send that list to my mate... £20!!!! - The markup this lot and many other are making is crazy, asssholes.

Sorry to add, isn't every old vehicle a constant work in progress? Like my almost 216k mile MK4 golf, I'll keep it till the chassi si not worth repairing, a bit like the dispatch...can't beat the old stuff for easy fixes/reliability.
Dispatch has been a good 15k miles somehow, since i got it, a slow 15k miles but its only just now no longer got a massie mountain bike in the back, so it's time to make it a bit more homely, I have some clean pallets coming soon, so we'll see
Best,
-Stu.

Even EuroCarParts take the piss. Looking at timing belt kits for my Maxus last night. Cheap brand one came in at £145 quid. That was with using the W/E discount code. Same never heard of brand was around 100 quid on ebay. CarParts4less is cheaper that Euro yet its the same company. Anyway never bought the kit. Going into Edinburgh later Today and get one out the motor factors as even Euro could not get it in for Click N Collect till tomorrow.

How did you get no with the belt? I can always arrange for my mate to grab one at trade price if need be?
Note: I'm currently drilling holes in the roof of my van to bodge on a cheap halfords solar panel, decided I'm gonna spend as little as possible till I know it's gonna pass another MoT lol.

Lol, front subframe and rear subframe rough as hell, but seem to be OK after flaking off the shoots I've put on each year lol, I think its 3 years I've had this now, how time flys.

Ended up paying 180 for a full Gates kit. Could have got cheaper but i wanted it that afternoon as it was looking like i was lucky and belt only. No that was not the case. Every not n bolt is fighting me. Turns out a killed a few rockers. Now need cover off and new set of rockers at 90 off quid. Half decent injector pullet for another 90 quid. Previous owner had a overheating issue and the rust and coolant has killed a lot of rocker cover studs as well as the ones holding injectors down so they were all either chiselled out or drilled. Rocker is now got a lot of broken studs so replacing with a 2nd hand one is now another 55 quid. Pay mechanic mate for time is another 250 so far and still waiting on my parts. That is now a week of this heap of crap not earning money. I should have torched the bugger like my younger self would have done.
