or id put that on... feel the belt so i know what it should feel like... then put the proper one on  cool

#6 Re: Maintenance » Citroen Dispatch Mk1 1.9 cam belt and water pump. » 2021-10-23 11:37:44

@ruston mmm seems to be the way to do it but... its one of those things that would linger in the back of my mind "did i do it right?" the 407 has a gauge on the tentioner with an arrow

TIMING-BELT-TENSIONER-FOR-CITROEN-C4-C5-PEUGEOT-307-407-807-EXPERT-1-8i-2-0i.webp

I have one for a 407 so when my belt arrives ill go round the tentioner with a caliper to see if they match and id rather use that if i can

(that would 100% fit a 2007+ expert)

@johndragonman

"it could be a sign the turbo seals are getting old. mine does use a little but its over a good 3k miles and just comes off the max line."

check this turbo deal wink

Its not looking good  roll

IMG-20211023-090119-372.jpg IMG-20211023-090129-388.jpg

Maf sensor looked just as bad.. didn't have any contact cleaner so I used isopropyl alcohol I recon thats what cantact cleaner is anyway?

1.35 litre came out of the gearbox.. wasn't able to find the level plug (unless this was it in the photo? There wasn't a bolt in there tho and I couldn't shove anything in very deep ) I put 1.8 back in... my box had a black breather cap on the top so it went in there.

IMG-20211022-145644-461.jpg IMG-20211022-155908-413.jpg IMG-20211022-151806-291.jpg

Box plug didn't have much metal on it so I was hopeful that improvements could be had... until I went to put the plug back in and the magnet pulled this out the gearbox.

Put 450ml of stp engine flush in ran.. it for what ever it said on the bottle.. dropped it

IMG-20211022-150839-795.jpg

changed oil filter put in comma x-flow flushing oil (I love this stuff) ran it for what ever it said on the bottle dropped it

IMG-20211022-160936-161.jpg IMG-20211022-174827-409.jpg

changed oil filter a second time put in wyns supercharge oil additive and topped up to correct level.

IMG-20211022-175153-408.jpg

I only do a double flush and add the additive when I first get a vehicle

Found a nackerd drive shaft

IMG-20211022-153001-043.jpg IMG-20211022-153006-973.jpg

think this was the coolant the 6th time i flushed it roll didnt take a photo every time but i recorded it

IMG-20211022-164025-056.jpg

radiator needs replacing plus both pipes top and bottem

intercooler needs replacing (think you can see the bottem left corner in the photo with the blue tub

front pads need replacing

full exaust needs replacing

aux belts about to snap

think im good on rust tho... so theres that  big_smile

this thing has a fule cooler? iv never seen one of those before? thats cool cool

im not going to do anymore work now im gonna put it back together and take it for an mot if they find anything im not willing to fix ill cut my losses

but if im happy ill be ripping the engine out and going full restoration mode

Mileage is nothing to go bye tho... Imagen a car in London stop, start, sitting in traffic all its life. moving meters at a time... vs a car thats whipped runs from London to Scotland.

binicle? whats  binicle?

vaz i owned a 406 with 530k miles on the clock. it wouldnt pass an mot coz the dpf was removed.. and the price to replace it... but that thing drove like new! Service it properly... it will keep going...

Im new here.. I have zero knowledge of your problem.. and zero knowledge of this vehicle. but I have to agree! a parts car is the way to go. The ability to swap components and see the effect is priceless.

@ Pathfinder100

In short... No I don't think mileage is stored in the ecu.

I have pp2000 and diagbox. I don't see anything sophisticated here with our vehicles... no live data.. its a good thing! My recently acquired van in an EXTREAMLY sorry state and all I see is a fault code for a head lamp. My 407 will tell you if the fuel cap isn't on correctly.

Everything I do on a laptop with the 407 (and you need a laptop to do anything) prompts a request for mileage and reminds you that you can only make 50 service entries..

My thinking is..... if its asking for mileage... then it dosnt have it. And the 407 seems way more computerised than this Vehicle. Like 1000%

Yea went with this one

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/183877338043 … SwatddJhKd

quick question I know im going to need to make a tool to tighten it but I also need some sort of gauge to get the corect tention
the listings I can find on ebay dont specify the range of nm

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251484105523 … xy0zhTLuhr

what did you use?

Sup pathfinder

Whelp the beauty of this is....  it isn't my main vehicle. so I get to enjoy putting it right at my leisure rather than running around in crisis mode tying to get back on the road.

Half a bottle of redex went in at that lay-bye wink

I bought a go pro type camera with head/chest mounts and a little tripod a while back and havnt got round to using it yet. I'm not much of a talker but im thinking id like to give youtube a crack.

Iv not rebuilt a gearbox before but Iv got no problem giving it a go. I dont yet know what gearbox it is and finding the torx settings could be a challenge.

full Monty overkill service has been ordered
(I have a... um... ritual when I get my hands on a new vehicle)

Gonna get it running right then take it for an mot
make sure there isnt a huge expense that iv missed.. and go from there

Howdy! big_smile

Im 34, live in Newark, Iv had my driving licence for 17 years and I have never taken a car to a garage. I just bought me a Peugeot expert... Found this site via JohnDragonMans youtube and after reading Ricko's comment “It's my 'bug out' vehicle for zombie apocalypse, civil disorder, alien invasion etc”
I reckon this is the place to be

Found the van on ebay for £350 the bloke was honest with the problems. I didn't do any research and snapped it up. Bit disappointed to find its an earlier generation of the 2.0 hdi that my 407 has.
I was thinking I already had a donor car full of compatible parts. But I'm also pleased to see it doesn't have a dpf and you don't need a laptop to fix EVERYTHING.

I haven't had a good look at it yet
The bloke I bought it off was a shirt, shoes and tie type so I wouldn't Imagen he'd had much time under the bonnet. In his listing he said 4th gear grinds in, its slow going up hills, the engine management light sometimes comes on, 3 of the doors are knackered and the water level light is on but he's put water in there. (I saw that as a red flag so I took fluids with me). Threw the money at him and drove into the first lay-bye.

It took 3 litres of coolant and the filler bottle looks nasty.. there's all kinds of floaters in there but no sign of head gasket problems. Rad warning light went out. Level was lower when I got back but I havnt found a leak yet so im hoping its just air pockets leaving the system

Oil cap was clean but nothing on the dipstick. it took 1.6 litres of oil

gotta be a good engine if it can survive that -.-

was hoping that 4th gear grind was just the gear linkage but after driving it I reckon its a syncro ring

On the 55mile journey home suspension, brakes, steering all seemed fine but was beginning to wonder if it didn't have a turbo coz it was slow as muck and I couldn't feel it. But it kicked in! for like 2 seconds just one time. And that put a smile on my face coz now I know its there and its not completely knackered.

Mileage display dosnt work but last mot says 210k (that dosnt worry me wink I had a 406sw with 530k miles on it and that only went to the scrap yard coz the dpf was deleted with a strait pipe (new mot rules)

I bought this mainly to use as a portable tool box that I can use around my yard and keep my trailer locked to it. But I also like the idea of a stealth camper project... anything I make to go in there has to be removable tho so it can still be used as a van.
