Have fun. It's bloomin' windy at the mo. I could be wrong, maybe it's the drink, but it may be that I used a bit of the original rubber part of the rubber/alloy pipe at the resevoir end, and linked it to the Halfraud's pipe using a short piece of usable alloy tube from the k-nackered old tube, 'cos the new rubber would not go on the resevoir's spigot. So my setup is: pump end in unperforated alloy -> rubber hose, secured with Jubilee clips -> along the chassis and up through the plastic "tunnel clamp" (which unclips) to a short cut off section of original alloy tube, secured to the rubber hose with jubilee clips -> some original rubber hose -> the resevoir's spigot with original hose clamp. So the whole lot apart from the alloy pipe at the pump end and a bit of original rubber hose at the resevoir end is replaced bu about 990mm of Halfraud's best rubber fuel pipe which is cheaper and better than other options. I did have the idea of using microbore copper central heating tube, but the shortest length I could buy was 15 metres, and too dear.
Had a look from the underside, found what I believe to be the correct Pipe connection
Yes, that looks like the boyo.
Prop the van up, get the wheel off, remove the plastic cover that stops grot spraying into the engine compartment, undo the nut, get your pipe off, replace.
I used a rubber hose from Halfrauds, 'cos the used alloy pipes I could see on eBay etc. were pitted like mine, and a new one was ££OUCH!
I noticed this issue a month back.
When I go around a roundabout at certain speeds, ie, over 15-20mph, the van will dive on the nearside in a weird disconcerting way and it feels like the van is trying to roll over. Is this an anti roll bar issue? Or is it more likely to be the shocks?
I suspect some of the problem is due to the interior camper weight being mostly on that side of the van, so it is more likely to dive when turning right, as the van leans more.
I am currently wondering whether to scrap the bed in the back and move to a rock and roll bed to try and distribute the weight more evenly. At present I have about 150-200kg of weight just on the right side.
Have you got a clonk? I had similar symptoms plus a clonk and it turned out to be wear where the bottom ball joint goes into the steering knuckle.
I'm going to charge the battery and leave it disconnected, measuring the voltage over a few days to see how it stands up.

Well, done it. I ended up by using short pieces of batten and G clamps to hold the driveshaft in place (clamping to the the shaft to the foremost trunnion of the wishbone) and clamping my Record No. 3 vice jaws onto the drive shaft, along the shaft, with the jaws near to the centre portion of the CV joint, where it slides over the splines. Inserting a cold chisel to act as a wedge and whacking it worked after a few goes.
So I washed & blew it all out, refilled with grease, and put it back together, which was a lot easier than taking it apart.
Lost perhaps an eggful of oil from the gearbox. I guess I ought to top it up, it's done over 250,000 miles.
Well. I have the thing nearly apart.
Question 1: What happens if the inner end of the driveshaft comes out? Does it just ("pour") out oil (how much?) or damage something?
Getting the CV joint off the drive shaft seems a real pain.
Question 2: Is the "slide hammer" technique (as in "Index » Maintenance » 98 Scudo - Replacing a Wheel Side CV Joint - photos" https://dispatchexpertscudo.org.uk/foru … php?id=360 ) the easiest, or is there an easier way?
I assume there's a round wire circlip functioning as a sort of locating mechanism that the joint can compress and slide over with a bit of persuasion [hollow laugh].
Question 3: Is that right?
I have a boot, another story in itself, but no cones or dilators or whatever. I alo have a nice mug of slosh. Soon, I will have another. That's better. Today has been a bit of a trial.
A few more things to do, but not too bad I sincerely hope....

Right. The metal pipe is made from some sort of aluminium alloy, at least it smells like that when you rub it, it looks like that, and it's very soft. I am not sure that it was cut, it may have snapped and been repaired with about 4" of rubber tube.
Anyway, I got a metre of 10mm fuel hose (£6, Halfords of all places, better price than motor factor who tried to sell me heater hose!), and Jubilee-clipped it to the short piece of pipe still attached to the steering pump (after having carefully reduced the diameter of the 12mm metal pipe and smoothed its edges, also working a tap spanner handle, about 11mm diameter, up the rubber pipe first to spread it). A bit of ATF in the rubber pipe and on the metal pipe helped it slide in. I cut the original rubber pipe coming out of the resevoir, about 3" before it enters a plastic tunnel screwed to the chassis just under and in front ot the resevoir, and fed the new pipe up through that, and joined it to the old one with a short section of "good" pipe from the original metal one.
So it's back as an hydraulic circuit, I'll get some ATF and fill it tomorrow.
MOT question: The original metal pipe was clipped to the top of the steel member running in line with the van just begind the wheel (the anti-roll bar is bolted to this. Not sure what it's called. A sub frame?). The new rubber hose follows the same sort of line, but should I think be clipped too. Is it in order to cable tie it to the steel member, or is something more enduring (galvanised wire, linked Jubilee clips, whatever) needed?
UPDATE: Hello guys....I've resolved the issue. Just so you know, the thermostat can be pryed out of the housing carefully using a sharp knife or blade. Do be careful though as you don't want much damage on the rubber seal around it.
It is good to see fixes, workarounds and "what happened" posts.
It's not a sticky caliper slider pin, it's a design feature, as pictured. Perhaps the caliper is not the same as others, I know there are two types of pad, which are not interchangeable.

Not sure what part but could it be a dust seal?
Here is a picture of a front brake caliper guide slider pin kit:
You can see that the shorter pin has a rubber sleeve that goes down the hole, to the "bottom" of it in fact. It makes getting the pin in and out quite a pull (or push). I thought it might to be to reduce possible chatter of the caliper were it to slide very freely, but I don't know. Just interested, that's all.

The OD of the metal pipe is 12mm. What sort of hose should I ask for? Is a motor factor likely to have something suitable?
Edit: As above, where the metal pipe had previously been cut, it was joined with a short piece of rubber hose held on by 4 Jubilee clips.

Is this a real pig to do, and are there any specific tools needed or tips? I have not done one before.
This side appears to eat CV bellows. I have no idea why.
The last time it had a new bellows, the garage had some difficulty getting it on. It popped off again soon after, so I took it back to them, and they put on a different one, possibly bigger. Are there different sizes available for these vans?

Corrosion on brake pipe rear offside. MOT advisory.
Is it permissible to scrape it clean and apply paint (in this case possibly coal-tar varnish), or is paint an MOT problem in itself?
This is the silvery metal (and black rubber) pipe that runs from the ATF resevoir to what I assume is the power steering pump.
Mine was rather leaky, and unsurprisingly the MOT man objected fairly strongly. Pity about his nice floor.
This pipe has previously been sawn in half around where the steering rack passes under, possibly by the garage that replaced the rack (after which I had to do the job again because the recon rack was faulty; there was no need to cut the pipe!). I had hoped it would be leaking where a short piece of black rubber hose was jubilee-clipped on to join the ends, but no. The pipe (unsure what it's made of) shows evidence of considerable (galvanic?) corrosion at various points along its length, with some pitting that has gone through, and some that has nearly very gone through.
New, these are quite expensive. Since the thing has flexible rubber sections, can I replace the corroded metal part with rubber hose? If so, where can I get it, and what sort should I ask for? The OD of the metal pipe is about 12mm, measured with vernier calipers. Other options?

I had a look. The brake pads on my van are the ones with the protuding lug on each end. Rust had caused the inner pad's lower lug to bind stiffly in the groove in the caliper, and wear a hole in the "shim" material between that and the cast iron of the caliper. I chipped away the rust and wire-brushed it, and swapped the top (good) shim thing (what are these called?) to make the main force bearing point OK.
Unfortunately, the pad had worn very unevenly indeed, so much so that only one edge of the hydraulic piston was bearing on the steel back of the pad, so I carefully hacksawed some slots in the pad, using beer-tin shim on the worn end, to prevent cutting into it, and using the slots as a depth guide filed away the thick unworn end of the pad, finishing with glass-paper on a flat hard rubbing block, taking care about the dust.
The now thinner pad is the one with electrical "sensor" connection.
Hopefully it will do now. When the other problems are fixed, the MOT man can telll me.
Edit: Supplementary question: Why has the bottom pin that the caliper slides on got a rubber sleeve on the inner end? Damping?
Mot failed. Braking imbalance. Offside front seems to be grabbing slightly as the wheel is rotated. Any ideas on how to fix it? I have it jacked up and the wheel's off.
