Does anyone know whether the engine mounts are the same on all these engines ? One would imagine not....
Peugeot 306 had 1.9d and in later years the M16 engine outta the 405 so could be an easy option (If the engine weren't so scarce
)
A lot of these went into 205GTis I think. Shame...always thought the 405 was a nice looking car
Cheers vaz2121 & Anchor.....a good starting point I think. Looked at a few engines online; would need to find out if it's a case of dropping one straight in the van or whether there would need to be engine mount mods etc
Our 04 Dispatch is going to need a new engine at some point. A like-for-like hdi transplant is an option, but I'm wondering if anyone on here has ever fitted something bigger or hotter in an attempt to create a discreet q-van..
Brenda (our van) will ultimately be a camper, but is it possible to create say a 140mph autobahn-ready version? If anyone knows of one, I'd be interested to see pictures, along with engine specs, suspension and brake modifications.
I'm not a boy racer by any stretch of the imagination, but I do think the Dispatch frame could handle plenty more oomph.
Useful info thanks
Manual??????????????
Well that would certainly help. Will have a look.
Can't believe there isn't a Haynes one, it's outrageous!!
The system has been backflushed a few times already but it's something I'll try again.
Thing is, I think the initial overheating was the cause of all three blows - hose, water pump then radiator. We're fairly confident that the thermostat being rusted shut caused the pressurisation, I had assumed that when the rad blew, it was some sort of pressure release screw that blew out. My mate has a theory that once this screw blows, the radiator itself is scrap. Wondering if anyone else has heard of that.
Either way, I think the pressurisation has now been cured. Or at least that's what I'm hoping. too early to tell
Looking for a replacement rad for my 900HDi if anyone has one please.
No, I haven't. It has a new one so should operate normally?
Guys, as you can probably see, I just got Brenda back after a thorough check over. It's looking like a replacement engine could be the only way to go. But I'm unsure of the exact engine type/designation...
She's a Mk1 Dispatch 900 2.0HDi on an '04. Anyone know the correct code or designation for this model please?
Just got my Dispatch 900 2.0HDi back from my truck engineer friend who has had it for several months, trying to find the cause of persistent overheating/coolant loss....
OK, from the beginning: the van initially overheated on a 20-mile run, and the hose to the thermostat housing popped. Fixed that.
Then, on another long run, the cooling system pressurised and blew the water pump. Total coolant loss....replaced water pump and timing belt that time.
And then, on a 30-mile run, the system pressurised again and boiling water emerged from the top right hand corner of the radiator as you look at the front of the van.
This all turned my hair grey. Into the workshop she went for a thorough examination. Pressure testing and internal examination revealed no cracks in the head or block. We suspected the head gasket, but a CO2 test and thorough examination of the oil and water ruled that out.
Then, we looked at the thermostat and that was rusted shut. Would not open when tested up to 120C....thermostat replaced.
The van was then fully serviced and MOTd, then driven around for over a hundred miles and suffered no further coolant loss....until tonight, when I went to pick her up. Less than 500 yards down the road, on came the coolant light, up went the guage to just past the 70c point before dropping back down. Got home and there has clearly been coolant loss from the radiator, same place as before, but the system does not appear to be pressurising as before.
So, my questions are, what is happening here? Could it be that the thermostat was causing the system to pressurise, and that has blown a hole in the radiator? Is it worth fitting a new rad?
The engine has done 178k and runs smoothly and as I said, my engineer friend is convinced the head gasket is intact. Help!
1.8 petrol...hmmm....will do some research on the 806. I like the HDi engine that's in my van and would hate to lose it's low end torque. Thanks for the replies guys
With the news that four major world cities are to ban diesel vehicles, my question is this: what (if any) petrol engines will fit into my Mk 1 Dispatch 900?
She's now SORNed and laid up at my mate's pub. Just started her up and driven her around the car park a few times.
The process of saving up for the repairs has begun.
Just wondering, how long will the quarter tank of diesel that's in there be good for? I don't want to foul the fuel system if I can help it.
So how did it pan out? My head gasket's gone too, think it was caused by overheating. I'm in the same situation but haven't started work yet.
Thanks. No, she is smoke-free and doesn't use too much oil.
Hi everyone.
I have an '04 Dispatch HDi900 which has done 172,000 miles. Recently I was driving to Torquay and suffered a leak from the thermostat casing (attached to the engine). An inspection revealed extensive corrosion of the flange onto which the radiator top hose is attached, causing the coolant to squirt out from under the jubilee clip. Having reattached the hose further up the flange with a wider clip, this seemed to temporarily stop the leak.
A couple of weeks later I was on my way to Cornwall. After twenty minutes of motorway driving, the van started to rapidly overheat. On stopping, it was apparent that the water pump had blown resulting in total coolant loss. I spent £300 getting the pump and cambelt replaced, and ordered a new housing to replace the corroded one.
I though that would be that, but then it became obvious that there was far too much pressure in the cooling system (all hot hoses were rock hard, and one had inflated like a small balloon) which on a short run resulted in a burst radiator. It's clear that the head gasket has gone and I'm trying to decide how to proceed from here.
My questions are many, but here are the key ones as I see it - given the mileage on the engine, would the best approach be to source a reconditioned or used HDi engine and drop it in, or to repair the gasket on my original engine? I have an offer of garage facilities and 'mate's rates' for either job. I love the van (had it for five years) and the bodywork is very, very straight so I'm committed to keeping it on the road. What do you all think?
