#1251 Re: General Discussion » LEZ Compliant » 2016-02-12 21:57:32

Just put my reg on that link and got "Not Subject to LEZ  and is not required to meet the Low Emission Zone standards this time." and is a  2005 Dispatch1.9D........... Is this because it's registered as Motor-caravan?

I ventured north though the Blackwall tunnel in the 306 about a year or so ago (first time in there in about 5 years) and saw the LEZ signs about Bexleyheath on the A2 and had no idea if we were to pay a charge or whatever,
So come Oct last year I steered clear as I assumed the van would fall foul

As back in the day I had to display an exemption disc and plates on the truck and years later last lot I was contracted to gave me a TAG too pay hefty daily fees for the congestion charge

#1252 Re: Camper Conversions » My Scudo conversion. » 2016-02-10 20:20:00

I'm not going to say No, That B&Q carpet glue won't work, But I was under the assumption that there was a particular type (spray) glue/adhesive (Available on e*ay) for sticking trim/carpet to the van so the heating/cooling? doesn't allow it to sag down/fall off

Yes I know the place... One and only time I was in there was about 10 yrs ago..... View points a little farther on about 1.5 to2mls it's after Corran ferry which I'm sure you'll know from the Antler at Ardnamurchan

Some what embarrassed
1, I didn't fit it.
2, Way over my head how it's wired/works
Dispatch-4_Snapseed.jpg

But apparently:- Plug in patch lead to van hook up socket and it powers mains 3pin sockets (breaker box-bottom)
It also charges the Leisure battery at same time then the van battery ? (middle box),
(fuse box on top, leisure battery circuit?) and what ever other black magic/juujuu for everything else when plugged in

#1255 Re: Camper Conversions » My Tin Tent » 2016-02-06 02:05:15

I mentioned in passing on the other thread that I read about a fella thats used a couple computer fans, 1 in 1out using some kind of timer on/off through the night for a flow of air.
No idea how effective or how well the leisure battery stood up to it.

It had crossed my mind that it might be worth trying as a sort of expelair type thing especially when boiling kettle with windows/doors shut on wet days

how about using tumble dryer hose and fan to draw it to vent in rear door or even an old vacuum cleaner hose/ small PC fan

Vent it  down the hole behind N/S wheel arch

I sure there's many a person on here that knows better than I, who could tell me how long a Leisure battery would last running a PC fan through the night

#1256 Re: Camper Conversions » My Scudo conversion. » 2016-02-06 00:59:29

I think that box thingy is some sort of vent like a car to release pressure when you shut the door........... if you look on you tube for a guy who goes by the name of Scudo Camper, he seems to use it to vent his Gas box and also the sink drain.. I'd need to look and see if mine is there or blanked off as it tucked away under bed.

We have the roof vent open every night but this time of year front windows still condensate.....I read back in the day a guy who converted a Vivaro/Traffic fitted a couple computer fans 1 in 1 out with some kind of timer to the Leisure battery on N off through the night for a flow of air

#1257 Re: Camper Conversions » My Citroen Dispatch stealth-camper » 2016-02-05 03:37:41

I'll go along with Tiree ... I've never stopped here over night either you'll get blown off view point, only couple miles further on towards Inveraray tour coach (July, August ?15) got blown off road... I too prefer Inveraray, and on towards Ardrishaig or even Tighnabruaich (Argylls Secret Coast)

Casper:.... If heading across Rannoch Moor and over Ballachulish Bridge (A82) almost half way from there to Fort William

A favorite of ours and we've got under height restriction with top box on..... that is if you/we haven't just parked up somewhere across Glen Coe

#1258 Re: Camper Conversions » My Scudo conversion. » 2016-02-04 11:08:33

Would this be a good time to ask if the wind deflectors on the rear of the cab doors on the Taxi are able to be removed easily without breaking and or in what fashion are they mounted. (Looking at photo, It appears to have them fitted)
Also if easily off is there any obvious part numbers visible ?

#1259 Re: Camper Conversions » My Citroen Dispatch stealth-camper » 2016-02-04 01:53:49

Brilliant... You can't beat it, Dodging around the west coast..... You've got the right idea for hiding in plain sight .... we're not to bad as camper looks go and have started to compile a list of our more favored stealth stop overs

#1260 Re: Camper Conversions » My Tin Tent » 2016-02-04 01:20:42

No worries, just saw on the other thread the heater control box thought it was yours   .... can see the bulbs but unsure if they just pop out or like on the golf they are sort of part of the holder....

Another tidy looking van......... Same colour as the WAV that I tried out for a week or so middle of last year, It had same interior trim with single passenger seat.........We managed our first few days and wet and rocky nights away this year and I've just noticed that a couple heater control lights are out under the sliders.....If yours is still out,  Are they just a push fit cap less bulb.......... don't suppose you can see wattage on them so as I know what to look for?

#1263 Re: General Discussion » Locations? » 2016-01-19 20:40:55

Your doing the right thing save loads of ads compare get a good feel of what you want/need/price and whats available.
Vans by their very nature obviously are going to be opposite of cars, as a work tool and collect said abuse.. so going to be wider mileage range, price and rough ness...

Don't despair take your time you will find one, even with a few miles/dings you will find a Gem

On mileage front...I did a hpi check on our camper before I took final step to find it had covered more miles in its last 2 years than in its first 8 years ...............it turned out that guy I'd bought it from used it for daily driver/everything....

#1264 Re: General Discussion » Locations? » 2016-01-19 15:58:31

Headline on Ad is that of a mk2 1.6 HDI van

photographs are of I'd say  mk1 2.0 HDI face lift... not a full blown WAV.... Although its been a disabled access van of some description and the name "Liberty" on rear door may support that

On the surface Ad looks OK... But I'd tread carefully, they may just not know what they have or is it deliberately trying to mislead ?...... Looks as though its been used as a painters van....Not that it makes it bad van just my gut reaction says tread more carefully than norm, but still worth a look

HHH mmmm... My nose has got the better of me and so I used this link " http://www.ukvehicle.com/SE05JDJ/ "............ Interesting !!!

Our 306 DW8 is now in the 200,000ml dept...... runs sweet as a nut with no more than regular/normal oil changes/service.... never needs water or oil between either

Swivel seats seem to be standard fitting to 806's ETC, A popular upgrade across Europe in vans/combi, Appears to be a straight swap or minimal fetling

IMHO I don't see any reason why not if it's at right money/condition ..... BUT ! Theres allways a but, Most if not all I've seen are DW8's (non turbo) and then there's the cut out floor althought most I've seen have made use of the cut out floor............They don'tuse standard exhausts... just something to remember when time comes can be pricey to get a one off made..... However it's never been worked as a van, usually low milage, all glass and headlining done........

I think there's more going for a WAV than against ...........

Maybe Admin could make a sticky or keep thread near top so others can see and add there van photo's here without the need to search camper conversions section as it gets larger

I'll follow monkeynut's lead with Our Van....

Hi Dolomite Welcome.. I'll go along with everything that's been said.... You need to find your own camper comfort zone, As Casper says sbmcc is good place to start, check out as many build/project sites as you can, steal and add your own ideas, that's the beauty of a self build .... you build to a level you want/need/have money for at time..

http://www.trafic-amenage.com/forum/vie … php?t=4415

Our van has the DW8 1.9 non turbo fitted and so far over about last 4,000 mls avg 38mpg (inc, Loaded, toured highlands N islands, towing 750KG motorcycle trailer)......... beggars cant be choosers, that's what was in it....... It seems that HDI's are for the courier type work and DW8's are for around town Donkey work. Our van seems to run about 500rpm more for a given speed compared to our (DW8) 306, although that's a bit of a guess as van has no rev counter

All the vans are the same just badge engineering..... All built at Sevel Nord - Lieu-Saint-Amand near Valenciennes, from what I've read (Scudo petrol only has FIAT engine)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citro%C3%ABn_Jumpy

As for changing Taxation class I'd say dependent on what level of spend and fitting out you've done............ If it complies with being a Motor caravan ETC it may just be worth doing, come time to sell it seems that if it's registered as such or you have a a good bit invested in your conversion, It does make a good difference to your return.
Insurance can be funny I've come across van policies that state "fire damage from cooking inside vehicle would not be covered".... just something to keep in mind as well as what was said about speed limits ETC

My 2 pence worth.... There under rated vans, yet to find one with real rust problems , DW8's cruise nicely @ 55/65 after that feel as though (for me) not just so relaxed, HDI's can suffer niggly (electrical) problems with age (Don't we all), I'm looking to darken down the rear door glass more (to 20% ?) and Personally, Glass in the N/S sliding door is the only one I'd bother with to make life easier (Ex caravan window/port hole), Insulate the floor as well, Enjoy

If you wish I'll take/upload some photos if it ever stops raining

Cheers.........

what program did you use to mock it up?

#1270 Re: Maintenance » Gear Select » 2016-01-06 16:59:23

Sorry I apologize ... I just took it as the 306 has a cable clutch (starting doubting myself there as well now) that the van would as well. Hydraulic on mine !!
made a point this morning to see if van had a gate lock for reverse which it DOESN'T.....Thought I'd look see what/how adjustment was available on clutch cable and low and behold ..... a slave cylinder
To try N save face Ive had an Ovtavia and a mk4 golf both had exactly same gear box IE part NO. gear box codes, both we given a clutch, again same part NO. YET one was hydraulic and other was cable clutch! !

Had a 307 before we got this 306 for my partner it was dreadful.... really looked the part 18" rims darkened glass was a 3 door 110 HDI rapier.. she really liked it but what a bag of s***............1st off, she complained that it used more fuel than old 1.8I vectra and no go..... turned out variable vanes in turbo were stuck, 2nd, she also said the clutch slipped every now and then.... neither I nor a test drive at garage could get it to slip.... The final straw was it would only start when it felt like it.... hot or cold if It didn't catch in first couple turns over you'd flatten battery trying...Six weeks and a none to shabby bill later for what turned out was needed, a new injector as old one wouldn't hold pressure when starting..... I'd had enough, When a local (chancer ?) car dealer, Had seen (nosy about) it in garage and made an offer and drove off in to the sunset wringing his hands having robbed us. Almost 5 months we had it, I and our pocket were glad to see the back of it.... Last I heard and saw it was back at garage the Duel mass fly wheel had for a better description exploded and if there was a light on the dash it was lit up including some sort of pollution warning and all this at just under 70,000mls and yet I hear high praise for the HDI but everyone that's said to me has had a HDI 90

306 IMHO far superior car.... bought it off a friends cousin?.... been in their family since new and had been handed down (around).... It had about 2 weeks MOT left, My mechanic friend gave it the once over (had failed MOT, abs light on + two bald tyres on purchase ) we struck a deal, We were still stinging and skint after the 307 but my partner is/was an Aux Nurse, was working in the community as well as the hospital at the time (needed wheels but skint)
So drive shaft from breakers ( for ABS ring) 2 tyres, a cam belt kit, power steering pump (breakers).... great car we've averaged about 18,000 for last 4/5 years with nothing more really than a service every 8/10,000mls......and IIRC 196,000mls now and still sweet as a nut (spent less on repairs in 5 yrs than 5 months on 307)... It's on semi retirement now simply because of my partners condition... I would Check oil N Water and think nothing of driving to Galicia with it (as per Avatar about 7 times over Millau viaduct, last time may 2015 @ 190,000 ish)

IMHO, I think the XUD engine might be a little more robust than the DW8....but like every engine they have there traits
Had  405GRDT, 2X 106D 's and my fav a 205 STDT as company/pool cars and they got worked, amongst others... whats happened: I just don't see anything with the 1.6HDI even ex taxi's with much more than 150,000 on them.....

Sorry going off at a tangent....... It's a HYDRAULIC Clutch ! ! !

#1271 Re: Maintenance » Gear Select » 2016-01-06 01:29:42

Accelerator cable on our van (DW8) is same as on our Pug 306 (DW8)...which became very very stiff to operate, ordered a new cable but while I was waiting decided to remove from pump and lube it, also removed the damper type thing fitted to pump, It made a big difference but was still stiff. When new cable finally arrived, it's a flat pack of bits affair to fit whatever model on list..... It was the younger mechanic at the garage pointed out routing of cable was wrong and curve was to tight (reassembled as I found It) now it's as It should be....still got new cable

As for my mates van, I think after clutch was fitted the linkage cables may have got twisted as it passes through floor  (like crossing your fingers) plus drying out with age  when it failed.... who knows....

Gear and clutch cable, If they can be lubed.. it can't hurt. The ball joints on ends of gear linkage that pop into ends of cables do dry out and can wear badly and will pop off if not lubed occasionally.....

I think clutches on Diesel are usually just heavier feeling  than on a petrol.... maybe I'm just old school... I must say the 306 is the heaviest feel of the lot, does have 100,000mls+ more under its belt though

As for reverse lock... I have no idea, Never had a six speed car (Liar that I am, mate left me his Fabia VRS used it for 2 weeks, it was only on way home from airport pick up he told me it's a 6 speed box)   will need to try our van, I'll let you know...... Funny thing mates Peugeot expert has a collar to lift for reverse where as mates Scudo N our Dispatch don't ?

#1272 Re: Maintenance » Citroen Dispatch side sliding door not closing properly » 2016-01-05 01:59:50

Do you think they'll come off easily if you found one in a breakers..
I made a point to see my friend today before work resumes and  BTW "HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone" I asked how he adjusted the door on the Scudo and a combination of Striker pin , catch on rear of door he also said some adjustment in the bottom runner mount, didn't get much more than that other than at least an hours worth of door slamming and swearing which helps enormously apparently........He did say that he got the door real tight on the seal but was a ***** to open and being plastic handles, So at finish up has "cab door and slide door" flush to each other (best he could) up to the waist line and the little bit above "cab" door  also, which stopped the whistling he was getting...had a look at mine, It's much like that now Ive replaced the little plastic bucket thing that striker pin locates too

#1273 Re: Camper Conversions » Links to Dispatch | Expert | Scudo camper conversions » 2016-01-05 01:09:45

I'm quite surprised that it doesn't have a second split charge Battery, Mine has one and I'm still a little paranoid in the morning that she'll start ... touch wood hasn't fail yet , I think that harks back to running the night heater in my truck in winter and it wouldn't always start in the morning even though it had two big Batteries but in series not split.
Check the gear linkage as well as it's cable operated and they do get a little vague...  I have a couple of friends who have these as work vans .. one has about 150,000 mls and gets a bit of abuse as a builders van and has as good a gear change as any cable change I've driven... The other about 110,000 and light work, absolutely terrible gear change but it did have a clutch fitted and broke the cables soon after .. I think it may be the routing of the cable, A bit of lubrication could go a long way too .. it was never that great a change ..but dreadful now  No idea if there adjustable...

#1274 Re: General Discussion » New Scudo owner » 2016-01-04 08:23:15

Phil.... Don't want to tell my granny how to suck eggs, but having to put up awning every night to be able go to bed sounds a real pain in the Ar** .... we got an awning with this van an it got an immediate heave ho in favour of the yet unaquired sun shade ...... I've had mates and family .. go to and still in Australia  ..... what they kinda did there, all be it with slightly better weather than us.... very basic kit in a L200 Mitsubishi van ?... got a slide out bed.. IKEA/futon style, but as they were a tad short of space used an old kitchen cupboard wall unit ... cut a hole on top put in a stainless bowel for small sink..... beefed it up a bit......... put it across back door used it inside and out for cooking etc ...but as it was only a foot deep it fitted within van along with bed.
I do believe they on occasion would strap it down behind cab seats so they could have their head at the rear door, propped open couple inches but locked/closed using a Caribbeana for some fresh air... I'd say they must have had a mossie net...... Ive also seen a link or something of that nature, ....... again I'll post it up if i find it

Cheers..................

P.S. Not unlike this

I've a mate who swears by early bandits mostly B12's though but complains of fuel consumption........ cant have it always..... An 1100 Zephyr is as as close a Z1 / Z900
what I used to wet myself over as a boy... As I said little Bandit does the Biz only complaint is A little buzzy for touring you get used to it, but could do with a few less revs, they actually steer the latest Bandits .......Sorry GSX650F/GSX1250F towards a touring ilk ... I've threatened to see if a different sprocket would work just never got round to it
Mine is a transition model... only produced for two yrs last of the GSXR oil cooled derived engines  but sort current styled ish water cooled version.
Next-doors boy ran a 600 teapot.. lad in town a 750 teapot... I think there under rated bikes a bit what the ER5  and ZR7 get when I mention them
I have felt for a long time that a 750 is probably most versatile capacity..... I was considering  a GS as a couple of the guys I frequent with have GS/RT's and I'm tempted but bit tractor like for the money....... A friend of 40yrs has a GS it has had a mountain of work done to in over last 5 yrs although he's done half as much mileage again as Ive have but it has made me hesitate/wary .......  He and I have gone to Stafford motorcycle in Oct for last 4 or more yrs  and it must be an age thing ..... I've started looking  in things like Enfields, Urals with a powered chair, Plastic Maggots !!. Stuff I wouldn't really have payed attention to before..... BTW if you haven't been yet A wee stop over with van to National Motorcycle Museum (same junction as B/ham airport/NEC if I remember) for the day is worth it........

I agree with you but there's many a rude boat per-say  crossing channel, luck on the crew really....  did Hull - Zeebugge took car on there once also..... I wouldn't say any less ticket price though to N/castle, what we did with car was take rations in a cool box  save pricey cafe but did give ourselves a little treat on return in restaurant.....

Be couple years ago  LD lines ran a boat from Poole to Santander/Gijón ..... under £90 one way with bike..... canceled the route before I got to use it and was attractive enough to consider car/camper

Plymouth/Portsmouth - Santander/Bilbao/Gijón ... looked often enough, Was on the freight boat once to go but it broke down in Plymouth harbour and I was kicked off,
anyway didn't fancy that sailing it was stormy in the bay of biscay and I've already got a mortgage never mind a second for a ticket

portsmouth - Caen/Le Harve  are good sailings (7/8hrs) but about as dear as Hull boat

Newhaven - Dieppe  was last time I was on (4/5hrs)(wasn't yesterday) a bit of a tub and a little  as you put it Newcastle ish

If you can get the deal..... go chunnel..... if your getting the weather go boat...... although that goes for little...second week Sept 13 .....19.30 sailing , departed 22.30 .... I think after we fueled up on outskirts of Calais it was all but 3.AM before heading for Rouen
