Will import tax not kill that idea? Unless its under £135

Shouldn't!
I know Brex$hit and things, but we are still in the same single market, so the seller, has to have an option to operate in UK, the same as in EU, so nothing should/would/could end up double taxed.
Loads of them on fleaBay, just as it comes to paperwork, they still pay all taxes, but mark it as UK duties paid (they make that extra portion of their total sale value (VAT 20%)) payment to UK coffers, instead of whatever the place they declare the income at (inside single (EU) market)

On the top of that exhaust can be split in to several declarations, but have it shipped in one go... for an complete exhaust £200-400 (except for Cat, that surely is available here)

I reckon, sure even, best solution and almost certain that extra TAX/import free option

Basically, once you release alternator bolt, route it that way, get lever to tension it to the point "I swear it's going to break", re'tighten the belt-alternator bolt back on

Same'ish route

Hi I need to replace my 2.0 hdi engine RHK but not having a lot of luck finding a good one but there are loads of picasso RHJ ones available has any one fitted one or know what other engine will fit

RHK and RHJ

And then you'd need ECU (and BSI) reprogrammed/adapted to suit each other, when simple BSM isn't going to be interchangeable (completely different wiring)

I've had (stupid) idea in buying 1.6 busted van and replace (engine + all that's needed with the same make donor inserts) - same'ish mounting points engine/gearbox, shafts etc
Got laughed at wholeheartedly, by mechanics... and half heartedly on this board too https://dispatchexpertscudo.org.uk/foru … hp?id=1871

Whilst your idea is little more refined, it is not possible to materialise within reasonable scope of time, expenses it would end like... or at all possible

Sorry!

https://dispatchexpertscudo.org.uk/foru … hp?id=1780 that's MK1 (1.5)
I'd say try to find air intake areas and follow the logic of where the water ingress is meant to get out, it's not a rocket science, but (as it turns out) most of the cars/vans have their designed drainage areas

Mine has this problem.  Thanks for your writeup.  So far I've cut out a chunk of the rubber stuff and put it to dry.  I'm manually mopping up the water as it comes out of the insulation, but everything is wet.  It will take a while to dry it out.

I'll probably remount the rubber on velcro so it can be removed and checked if needed.

#138 Re: Maintenance » Exhaust - Cat section » 2024-03-27 20:58:20

Off topic, I also came across a god awful amount of oil on the back of the engine.  Spraying from somewhere I think, no idea where though. hmm  But it's all over the place on everything.

Most likely, as mine, on the RHS (as you look at the engine bay) see where (with the mirror or the phone, as I doubt your head will fit in) vacuum pump is and cover gasket, but only shows as on LHS (or in the van RHS) bottom of the engine bellow water pump and on the engine mount
My guess

#139 Re: Maintenance » PANIC. 1.6 HDi 16 engine keeps stalling after start » 2024-03-25 19:23:40

raining

problems afterwards

Does sound like relays or maybe even ECU got wrong signals, as everything is electronically controlled, finding fuel pump feed hardly is going to be of much help, but spraying either wd40 or silicone on the fuses/relay box might help to disperse the water and even to warm up engine enough to get it going again.

I've 5008 (2.0 DHI) with similar problems, my own testing with ODB2 was useless, compared to what mechanics found, like relay on the battery being dead, that explained occasional need to turn the key several times and sometimes needing to wait for 5 minutes, to try to start.
Why am I telling you this?:

I believe, it's electric and even electronic issues you are having now, try decent, knowledgeable and experienced mechanic to diagnose the fault and suggest you a cure, but I doubt it'll be solved on the spot, as a breakdown repair

Whilst of no real answers, but hope it is of some use
(Again, not a mechanic, only a keen observer opinion)

#140 Re: General Discussion » Selling my van - On hold for a bit » 2024-03-19 12:08:12

Unfortunately with all car-van repairs it is the same.
Whilst they have every part available it turns not necessarily so and in general cars these days last certain amount of time by design... Once they start going wrong it hardly is worth repair, as something else will fail. Then, considering labour charges surpassing costs of parts and vehicles need be considered.
I know we talk about generation before, but as it comes to suppliers it is bit of a nightmare for them with all the returns, claims of incapability etc.
Pop over to a garage and see what happens typically... They in majority are there for the money, cars on lifts- awaiting for the right parts.

Anyway, do plod on, or, considering what you are capable of, you might've as well made up the section ownself?
Also photos helps, if not for you, for the other readers alot wink

So many times I've looked at cars and vans in the last ten years, with apparent knackered turbos and probably 7-8 times out of 10, there's a leak on one of the hoses.  I've had three cars and a van with holes or tears in hoses, usually you can tell if there is a ton of oil everywhere and usually a quick feel around will confirm.  But you can drive them without the turbo as well, just keep the revs low and don't push into the rpm where the turbo engages.  that's how I got mine back from Essex after I bought it, at 50 mph. smile

My plan was (once learned about smoking-turbo) was to get to   the nearest garage, get 5l oil and keep stopping every 5-10 miles, hence took off front bumper, so it wouldn't fall under...
Oil?- none! literally 0 o a dipstick, asked for some... so it started to suck it, as much as the diesel.

Insurance issue of NCD's transferred, invalidating the cover for old van and the cost of it... and then hell knows how long would it take for mechanic to sort it out leaving me without a van that's what broke the camels back, but thinking off it- dam! (I will regret it) it would've been an absolute perfect vehicle for me at the end of a day decent looking, driving like a train, can get my tools or motorbike in to go off for a break or so)... live-regret-learn- eff NO!

Last night bid 1133 for a van that went 1170 and it's way old ('er) (6 years) "so so" example with half higher mileage (clutch toot toot), only 110 HDI and many other unknowns...

I love how every van you're looking at is "It's good, it's the right size, it's local. Only downside is the huge mechanical issue that makes it a scrapper. But apart from that!"  lol

This one apart...
Out of x4 that I looked at, this one is a reasonable investment, in a sense, repaired would be profitable to sell or ... Makes sense to have it repaired to end up with 2012 reg luxury "sports" van.

For a change, as all previous were death traps in comparison

#143 Re: General Discussion » "Prep your sled in the summer and cart in winter" AKA thoughts? » 2024-03-18 18:08:13

Anyone wants a punt at a mechanically mint, aesthetically poor, genuine 135K Peugeot Expert Tepee 130 HDI 2012 reg with made wheelchair ramp fitted (biking-camping holiday or a sleeper camper conversion etc).... but knackered turbo (£1K all in job)...
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/296296587851 (Eastley) Southampton

Guy, that's selling, would've even taken offer, but insurance (on the top) made it not worthy investment-hassle for me .

huh, also, I've taken the front bumper off (inside), unless you are no more that 10 miles away and ready to stop to fill up with a litre of an oil half way- it's trucking-trailering collection.

PS, if not sucking and smoking- would've loved it, would've been massive upgrade for me

#144 Re: General Discussion » Dillema » 2024-03-16 20:17:01

All and none could be or not spotted at a different MOT center, that £40-55 would be nothing to get better opinion on what REALY needs be done
Scrapping?- nonsense...

If you can get any use out of it, repairs in total wouldn't go over £500- no brainer! especially if chassis is good for no rust.

And as @Roops says MK2 onwards is equally bad as Traffic etc for repairs that normally are at least fivefold of the costs of MK1 repairs

I don't think I should have bought it, but it would have been difficult to resist.

I just can't do the work anymore and once you start having to pay, it's just not practical.

I'm in a same'ish kettle m8. Do rare occasional jobs, absolute struggle with my long covid nonsense, but have to! and to do as little as I manage- got to have a van for.
These days it seems as there aren't that many jobs about, so people would be changing trades, selling vans, right?- nope- buggers are still as way overpriced as anything neutral

I better stick with either Dispatch sized ones or go, as I should've with same crap in Traffic type range.

Bottom line, where I stand:
No 1.6's!
If 2.0 needs to be in good condition, as most of repairs are £1K +

and... got to be able to insure the bugger, roll

Those 1.6 vans have weak engines and gearboxes.  I've seen so many for sale as spares or repair on ebay, with gearbox and engine issues.  i think at least if you stick with the 2.0 HDi it's a known quantity.

I'm past the small van phase.  If I came across the right Transit, specifically a Euro 5 or 6, MWB, High Roof, then maybe.  But with all likelihood I will move back to cars, with cheaper everything.  But for me a Galaxy of around 05-07 would tick the boxes.  It will take the smallest version of the porta potti (and yes I can just about sit on it), it has load length of around 2m (so I can lay in it) and they tend to have cruise control and do quite a lot of mpg.  Also less electronics than modern monstrosities.

Agree to stay as clear, as far as possible from 1.6's, but that catering box is (was) 2.0 HDI

Nearly bought a 2.0HDI 130 bus variant... went on to get temp insurance- NO!
Tried to get full insurance, to include part time work- business usage... under 10k anualy...

From just over £300 notes I'm paying now, I've spent near last 18 hrs wrangling interwebz and phone to get it quoted- insured for less than £700, some are refusing  point blank, some are coming up with £2.5k and one £5200!!!!
