Cam belt went in my Maxus last year. Binning the van to buy another was madness. I got a shit van with good engine for 500 quid and swapped them over with a mate. Cater for a new clutch kit, service and belt/W.Pump change but..... I was 100% sure the rest of my van is solid so get under yours and check over the sub frame for rot before throwing money at it as if that goes a year later then it would be a money pit.

On some occasions I wish it did, if she was reliable, honest and caring. Haven't found one that possesses all those traits yet.
Casper, I believe under EU rules, most restaurants have to cater for GF customers and it has to be well documented/visible on their menus, so I don't think you will have any issues. Just let them know you are GF when you go or book. The rules around food allergies are much better in the EU than over here. As ever, YMMV.
I don't even attempt to eat out anymore with my nut allergy as I spend far too much time sat in Hospital Resus areas when I've done so in the past. Better to eat bland food and not die, than the alternative.
Think i would rather be GF than a nut allergy. At least im just going to be uncomfortable for a few days and throw in a couple of close calls but ill no be snuffing it. A Girlfriend in restraints could be nice or one over the wifes gob would be better
Bruges, Last time i was there i could smell the wee from the amount of OAP's that were in the place
We stayed in a youth hostel what was clean and cheap. Cant remember exactly where but must have only been a 10 minute walk from main town. Food was great but TBH the beer did not impress. I got the feeling the Belgians think about strength over taste to much. Nowadays i cant drink much beer anyway as got diagnosed as Coeliac so need to drink Gluten free stuff only. Next euro trip is going to be fun fathoming out who does GF in restraints. Ill be taking a few extra rolls of Andrex thats for sure.
Well every day is a school day. Looks like Jan 2021 was the last ferry crossing
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-humber-56114654
TBF it was only saving an extra 100 miles or so on a trip. Planning a Italy Croatia trip for 2023 and intend on crossing from Newcastle anyway but the Zeebrugge route is up for sale according to that ^^ article
This is my rough guide to the next trip over three weeks
I got 50 quid for mine
They are crap if you are tall as my seat would not go fully back. Taking it out was like driving a different van.
Although i am toying with the idea of hopping into Holland on the Hull boat and then heading south into Belgium. Don't know where I will go after that. If I do go I am only planning on a short trip of maybe a week. Just a beer/wine run and some R&R.
You know its not just Hull to Rotterdam? Same post and still P&O does Hull to Zeebrugge what is Belgium but of you are chancing your luck and stocking up better crossing into Luxemburg as the tax is even less. As for the allowance i will still be bring shed loads home. Sadly we got our Rottie put down last week but she had a passport and came with is. Pre Ferry checks home they would never put the sniffer dogs in or near our bus. More so if they seen us letting the dog walk round the bus and have a piss. I presume the cent does something to the sniffers ability to sniff that day. Anyway they just send in a border control officer who only looks in large spaces where you can smuggle an illegal immigrant. No fag or booze checks and never a drugs check even after we told them we were in Amsterdam the night before. Ill grant you trying to hide stuff about your vans will be a lot harder than my Convoy bus but still doable.
They stopped me. well a group of us but because of me for not having my headlamp on. The RR had went so was limping it back to the ferry as it was the end of our trip. Once plod were out of sight it went back off again.
Its been the early to mid 90's since i was ever in France for a proper Holiday. Out the two times i have been i was just passing through in the same day and another where i spent the night in a camp site. Its one of the most unwelcoming places i have ever been from a drivers point of view. I think there Government is corrupt as well as there police. Its a bloody shame as apart from the Parisians the people i have met are all lovely and the country can be quite stunning. The emission zones dont bother me as everyone all over Europe is doing it including the UK. Speed limits is fine also, their country their laws but i have read to many horror story's where the see a GB plate as a cash cow and many a person frog marched (Pardon the pun) to a cash point for an on the spot fine. The UK and the rest of Europe must pump in £1m's if not billions to their economy with the tourist industry. If only it could be boycotted for a year to let them see what they will be missing but that will never happen so for me they can do one. If i ever do go to the Bike Rally on Faro, Portugal ill be taking the ferry to Spain to bypass them.
£9.06 is definitely a cheap fix, but I suggest you shop elsewhere for your pints of milk
Hoy that is for the four bits. He only needs to find the right one so about so about £2.26 in Venezuelan shops
Looks like you are well sorted Casper. Not to mention a very fine van.
Its not bad a van. Plenty space what im not using to its full potential so come the end of the year its all getting ripped out and start again for a Croatia trip in 2023. Need to get engine sorted also as it keep loosing power mostly when hot. Everything is pointing to the pump what is a good 5/600 quid to replace then get it programmed into the van what in thinking Nah. Its a Mk6 Transit that is in it but only the 90BHP model. Transit had a 140BHP version and i could get an engine for that so ill look into buying that or a rotten Transit for the transplant. Only down side i need the Pump, ECU and Immobiliser with keys so aye, probably best find a rotten van whats about to be scrapped.
That plastic joint going into the pump is that what is leaking. It looks like its just another variant of fuel line joints what might be replaced for the price of a pint of milk. These things
A 100w panel on the roof is the end of any battery not being fully charged, issues. Had one on my old transit that did nothing but charge the vehicle batteries. Never had any issues with them after I installed it.
An alternative hack if you already have a solar panel up there charging a leisure battery. Most good solar controllers have a load circuit, most of the MPPT controllers will also let you program the limits for it. So hook a trickle charger to the load circuit and set the controller to cut out if the leisure battery hits say 12.5V. Wire the trickle charger to the vehicle battery using decent cable rated for the length you are running to minimise voltage drop. When the solar panel is active in the day it will feed a couple of amps to the vehicle battery.
Another dirty wiring hack can also be used with the above method, if you have a VSR installed. If you put a 4 way switch in, just before the VSR on the vehicle battery side and wire the trickle charger to that switch, you can change from using the VSR to fill the LB, to using the trickle charger to keep the VB topped up. Useful if you are parked up for a while or the van has been mothballed for winter.
Got 400A solar on the roof of my Convoy Camperbus what have been looking after my 260Ah leisure and 100Ah start battery for well over a year now. Its down the borders in storage just now at a friends parents farm. Ill go get it back in another six weeks and i fully expect it to start first turn of the key
Got a Maxus for a work van. The 90Ah battery is old and would only last three days if not in use. Back had a chair lift so its wire was still there. Stuck in a 110Ah to act in Parallel and buy god it starts on the key. I thought i wanted glow plugs also i just wanted more power. My Convoy book says 75Ah but come winter it struggles with that even new. We all on out Facebook page stick in at lest a 90Ah or like me 100 but its the CCA you want. You got to think what driving you do also. If lots of stop starts especially this time of year its not getting a chance to fully charge. This is why i put a 40Ah solar in the screen but may upgrade that to 100Anh on the roof if i have any more trouble.
I feel like Im pushing it [DW8] in Van if Im constantly showing 75 ......................
And 90 in the 306 [Gearing] ..............
It must be an age thing now as I have the driving record that claims I'm a speeder........... ....
I do enjoy pushing a car round the country roads however today i was good. Had to go into Edinburgh for the two yearly eye test and never went over 75 once. Had the wife in the car and she would just nag me to hell as its her car and fuel
Says here
There are a few things that constantly draw power in a vehicle, such as the clock on the radio, so it’s normal to have a reading between 20 and 50 milliamps
Wow 100 isn’t bad! I’ve managed 90 in my 1.9d but that’s downhill on the A30. On that road you need to be going fast just to get up the other side!
Been on a few in Belgium like that. Long down hill where you see an even longer uphill in the distance so you floor it to get any chance of speed on the upside. The 1.9D does have charm at times
BTW this was the A1 on the flat with no wind
Seat belt pretensioners?
Were they not all related in the same system as airbags? Would a pretensioner without and airbag not cause more neck injury than an airbag with no pretensioner?
But being a 1999 model, it has no airbag.
Probably an empty hole for where the airbag ECU will go for a posher model
Dono did the 2.0 have them around then? Cant see them making more than one body shell when one fits all.
Quick edit.
That says the 1.9T had airbag as well as ABS so good money says you have an empty hole.
science fiction in 1998.
I remember watching Space 1999 as a kid. How disappointed i was when it came round.
Airbag ECU me thinks.
Another thought. I use FORscan so read my convoy and a cheap Chinese reader for my Maxus. Both tell me the revs, temperature or coolant and engine obviously through the OBD port. There is a company out there that do a dash display of what is going on with your engine while driving. If this displays Revs as well as a few other things then it may be the easiest solution , Think they are American but try Ultrascan in ebay or amazon
Just found this while sorting some boxes:-
https://dispatchexpertscudo.org.uk/foru … 29468.jpeg
It has 4 wires - Red, Black, Blue, Yellow.
Black and red will be 12v, The red doesn't enter the casing but attaches direct to the 2 night light bulb holders externally.
The yellow is very long and looks like signal.
Any ideas on the blue? Would it be another 12v live to the internals?
If this post is anything to go by you have a green earth missing. Scroll down to where the OP puts up three pictures. It will probably be an earth you dont need if putting in and old classic with steel dash. Bit like some radios would not work till you installed the aerial or put in cradle.
I was dicking about with one on my convoy to see if you could retro fit one what you can but luckily they all come with the signal wire in the loom.
I know I tried swapping out a Synergie dashboard to see if its rev meter would work, but unfortunately not. Where would you get the signal from?
Some alternators have an output signal.
