I have an Expert 1.9 non turbo on a 54 plate
It sounds like a tank, chugs along as though its only firing on 3 cylinders.
Ran out of fuel one day so primed the fuel system with the manual pump and if I do this and loosen the fuel supply from filter to pump nut
Start the engine and give it a couple of revs then the van drives perfectly for say 100 miles before the diesel knock starts again.
Any ideas where to check next to see where the air is getting in.
I have taken the van to a couple of garages and they say that it's the injectors that need changing? Could it just be an injector seal?

Check the fuel filter housing lid ..... It can on occasion be a real Bi**h to seal with the rubber sealing ring and the top securing clamp being finicky.....

OK I have changed the fuel filter and fitted new seals and damned clip. Bled the fuel so no bubbles. Started engine and ran for a couple of minutes and fuel line filled up with air again. I can see air bubbles in the fuel line from the tank going in to the fuel filter. What next? Is there a fuel pump on the fuel tank on these vans? Have checked the fuse for the fuel pump so just need to know where that is located

None of the 1.9s have a pump in the tank, just the one in the engine.
Gonna be a hard job tracking it down withou clear pipes. Maybe you could get a small 5 litre tank of diesel and unclip the fuel lines at various points, dip it in the tank.

The video shows the air bubbles. Got the van started drove say one mile before it stopped. primed again with the pump tried starting and not enough power from the battery to start again. Have now tried 3 batteries so far and still the same.
Whilst being towed off the busy roundabout I bump started the van got back home and checked the battery voltage as in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhLpn0DwLyw any ideas?

Obviously the bubbles won't cause your battery issues, but that doesn't seem like a happy battery, being at 12.3v to start with, and quickly settling to 12.4v after the engine is running.
Alternator's obviously working fine. I'd give that battery a charge but if it's settling at 12.3v it's not in a good state

Mate, this is an utter ballache I've been through the same changing the cap and the stupid bloody clip, I ended up using the cap and seal from the old filter and the new clip, then pumping the primer worked... don't worry about the air...you can get that, although maybe worth double checking that clear plastic hose ahs fully sealed, I had to boil mines and let it cool before it sealed properly.
Edit: Double check that small vaccuum type hose has no holes and is sealing properly, check for cracks on the plastic outlet to that hose also.
