Cigarette lighter

Anyone know how to remove the cigarette lighter? Mine is a bit temperamental, probably due to the previous owner depositing 16 years of compacted ash into it, so I want to take it out and replace it. I'm just not sure how to do it with it having a spring loaded ashtray cover?

Re: Cigarette lighter

Hi mate I have replaced mine it was a few years ago but if memory serves correct, unclip the gear gaiter and undo the two torx screws on the left. I think this releases the entire facia including the spring loaded cover.

Then it's a case of prying the lighter out, one of them plastic clips behind that you need to press. I found this the most awkward part.

I was quoted £35 for a oem one from citroen so I replaced with one like this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal-Car … SwEgVWT0WG

I did have to file a small amount off the facia and add spade connectors to make it fit, the replacement had a separate feed for bulb same as the one I've linked. So it is no longer lit but is still working well 2 years later

Re: Cigarette lighter

More or less what the wet gypsy said but one the torx are out take out the ash tray to make it easier to get the lighter out. Just pull it as it has the plastic tangs that pop out when pushed in place. As i am tight i just put one in my pocket last time i was in the scrap yard.

Re: Cigarette lighter

Thanks guys, I didn't think of the gear gator! That reminds me, there's not much left of the existing gator and the gear knob seems to spin freely without unscrewing, are they easy to replace with universal parts? I've never done anything like this before so it's all a learning curve but I refuse to pay somebody to do it, if it ends up looking shit, it'll be my shit  lol

I was reading a post on the fiat forum about the gear knob. Apparently its twist and pull till it slips off. Mine is like yours, just spins to so  thats another job when i get back from Holiday.

I put one of the leather gaiters on off ebay was £8.95 but really good quality and fits perfect just a bit of glue needed

Theres a serated plastic insert in the gear knob if it now spins freely it's now shagged so new knob or glue needed mate, and yes just pull is the only way to remove

Re: Cigarette lighter

8 ball is always cool but the gaiter would just hang loose as it is cable tied to a recess in the knob, I'm sure there is a way to do it though pal

Re: Cigarette lighter

Well I finally got a new fag lighter in, it took ages! Had to do a little bit of modifying to make it fit but it's in now, and works big_smile as for the gaiter, not sure what I'll do about that yet but it's definitely coming off, it looks awful!

Re: Cigarette lighter

Sorry to drag up an old post - came here looking for gear knob/gaitor advice. The gear knob exterior has completely broken away to nothing now, except a rather sharp plastic nubbin. I'm blaming the dog.

Anyway, I'm looking to replace, and possibly replace the gaitor too, but surprised I can't find any online for a Dispatch. Can anybody recommend one that will work?

Similar question as above - wasn't sure how to get off. If I turn 90 deg anticlockwise, and then pull like a train, will it come off, and not damage anything?

Thanks all!
