Offside rear door, internal locking

Hi all

When the double bed is made up in the van I plan to use the offside rear door for entry / egress.

However, there is no way to 're-lock' this door from the inside (a key would do it from the outside).

Before I pull the door panel off and investigate to see if I can put a cable in there, or something, does anyone have any thoughts? Do any of these vans come with a locking button/lever thingy on the inside of this door?

Re: Offside rear door, internal locking

For the size of the van would stretching over to operate the central locking on the sliding door not cut it? I had an issue with my back doors vibrating open when driving. I ended up putting a drop bolt on the door and into the floor what cured that. You could put a nice brass one on the inside of the O/S door and just use that if you dont have CL.

Re: Offside rear door, internal locking

Definitely doable. I pulled mine out and attached a cable to the mechanism that turns when you turn the key.

I'm trying to remember exactly how I did it. I think I took the door handle out and watched it as I turned the key. Tie it to the plastic loop then feed it through the door to the inside.

Yeah, no CL in SteVan, Casper, so may consider extra hardware but will probably end up with Ken's solution - cheers

Re: Offside rear door, internal locking

There is a convenient cut out in mine which allows a finger to be poked in to lock it.  Probably by the same link Kens cable attaches to.

I will post some pics tomorrow.

Re: Offside rear door, internal locking

Can be locked by clicking the black plastic bit upwards.

Mine doesn't have that but I'm getting the hole cutters out in the morning! Thanks for the tip!

No not me.  Tis a factory conversion though so probably done by them.  Just needed a panel with a little lever to finish it off really.

Careful where you drill Tiree,  there are flanges and mounts for the lock behind there.  No way to see them till you cut.  I think a single 50 - 60mm hole in the right place would suffice.  The lever only needs the slightest push from one finger to click the lock.

I will post some measurements later.

The centre of the linkage you are looking for is 6" down from the curve into the window recess and 3" in from the door edge.  At that centre your pilot hole will miss the bracket behind.
