I don't really have the ability to help further.
Just giving you things to ponder.
The smoke would also be light grey/light blue from valve stem oil seal failure, or engine oil in the combustion chamber. Not white as your van is showing.

White smoke from a cold engine, clearing when engine warm is also a symptom of the valve stem oil seals failing.

use a big drill to "drill" out as much rubber from the old bush as you can, then thread the hacksaw blade through the newly drilled hole and connect it up upside down in the handle, then saw through the outer race of the bush. once you do that and get through the outer race it will come out real easy. to get the new one in, i used a bit of threded bar, 2 nuts, 2 thick washers, and 2 sockets. added some copper grease and they wound right in place.
for any real space you will have to disconnect your brake hose flexies on the rear axle.. thing is though if they are as old as the van, i'd get them changed anyway. chances are the brake fluid is over 10 years old too.
am i the only one that uses a vacuum pump and catch tank to bleed brakes or am i just weird? does work well..
I use a hand vacuum pump to bleed brakes as well. Mainly used on motorbikes with linked brake systems, but makes bleeding brakes on any vehicle a one man job.

Was out in the van this morning, paid close attention on the roundabouts and corners. the van is fine turning on level roads, but pitches slightly when turning on a badly cambered road. Would say that's only to be expected.
The wee van is a pleasure to drive. A vehicle with a bit of character is a rarity now.

Maybe down to miles travelled = worn suspension.
My van is a 2006 1.9 with 75k on it. I have been driving old vans for most of my adult life, so may be subconsciously cutting it a bit of slack.

My van has no anti roll bar fitted and drives fine round bends and roundabouts. Have you checked the state of the strut on the nearside?

Pulled over by the police in France when on the bike for not coming to a complete stop and putting my foot down at a junction. He explained to us that we would be taken to a cash point and made to pay a fine. After a conflab with his china, he came back and scolded me with a demonstration of stopping and putting his foot on the ground, then waved us on.

I used a piece of thin hose made into a keyring, then pushed the hose over the ignition key blade. The hose has to be removed to use the key, a good reminder that something needs checked.
It was used on my bike after an embarrassing attempt to pull away with a brake disc lock fitted.

You could also check the rear brake equalising valve is moving freely.
Those pins and rubbers look like they are off a RWD rear caliper from a mk7 transit.

Cheap exhausts available on evil bay, from Poland but postage free to the UK . £43 for the front pipe with silencer attached. Quality is decent enough.

Coincidence, unsure ... but whilst looking about the engine bay, there was a green wire that looks like it has snapped off from somewhere, but we couldn't quite see from where
I have a 2006 19D DW8B. Where about in the engine bay was the snapped off green wire? I can take a look and see if I can find where its meant to go to.

I would say buy the best brake pads you can afford, not the cheapest you can find.
You have turn the calliper piston as you push it in.

Why do the give advisories for grease on brake pipes. On metal pipes you get corrosion, so grease is a buffer to stop that happening.
The inspector cannot inspect the brake pipes if they are covered in grease. Probably think that the grease is there to hide corrosion.

I would say any drive away awning will fit. Drive away awnings are universal and not van specific. Our vans are actually smaller than the type of van they are intended for, so any type that you can find will do the job.
