Me to. Last time was 1987 heading to Turkey.  Disappointed when i started to travel Europe even though the border points were still up and manned we never got stopped. I also miss the different currency's, well apart from going to cash machines and trying to work out how much you are taking out.

You could have piles of rust running around if its never been flushed. This dirty old crap could be blocking waterways in the head what would be a disaster. Someone could have mixed red and blue antifreeze what is a no no. I have seen rusty water cover the temperature sensor in the past t a state where they give false readings. Me i would take radiator hoses off and fully flush the whole system and dont stop till you see clean water coming out. It is safe to run without a thermostat just your cab may not be very hot. There is the possibility you have a duff thermostat. Do the boiling water test in a cup test to confirm. Other option if bin the heat controlled fan and rewire it to either have a switch in the cab and remember to turn on/off according to temp gauge or feed it to an ignition wire and have it on constant.

TBH your detour at what. 120KPH compared to the shorter route at 50/80 i cant see it costing you much more time TBH but what you missed was the road was full of whore houses and the last thing you would expect as take a side street almost all the way up its full of posh residential areas.

As for filling the box is it not like a RWD Diff where you fill till it dribbles out the fill hole?

Ask the guys on the Fiat Forum what software is used. Im sure there is different levels and one (Limited) is free. It covers the three brands as far as i know

Put a new fuel filter in lately? The seal on the filter lid/cover is a weak spot specially if you have an aftermarket one also is the little return pipe still attached? AA men are great for talking crap to just drag you home ASAP so they can get back to the layby and sleep.
