Well done ........
I have in the past also taken a photo of a milestone mileage ...................
My favorite vehicles to use are the van and the 306 the van at 16 years old has only got 102,000 miles approx as it last showed on it's late 2018 MOT just short of 99,000mls and then covid hit and two binnacles later and after having the milage sorted on the first binnacle and nothing wrong with it when I changed it as at time I thought faulty Speedo tookit out and gave it away ... Anyhow now mileage works along with the speedo when it feels like it and we've been stuck at home ever since................
Although the 306 has been on retirement duties for about 6 or 7 years now it's got just over 212,000 mls and still runs strong and at 170,000 mls took us down to Galicia and the med in Spain without a second thought [That would have been the last year it averaged easily 20,000mls PA] But alas failed her last test a good few months ago now due to rusty brake pipes wanting changed ..................... both van and 306 have a version of the DW8 fitted
Garages just now are so So buzy including both my friends ... The memsabs car took about a month to get in and as we knew it wanted some stuff done and it took another 7 weeks to get mot'd and that [if it did any good] after a bit of pushing for the parts and to get mot done .... we've now had it back about a month and even on friday past when we went back out to garage I still haven't got a bill to pay for mot or work done yet ...................
I've also got a 65 reg car along with this lot and it has covered 17, 400mls nearly last I looked and if nothing else it should tell you how much I enjoy driving it compared to the others ....................
Anyway well done for reaching and having the photo of that milestone milage and many more happy miles to come along .............
I'm led to believe that non turbo xud metal rocker covers fit but don't quote me on that as Ive never been brave enough to try ....................
Many moons ago I had similar issue with a GM V6 and the older version engine had metal rocker covers but it was the coil packs fitted that differed and made all the difference to changing over I was to find out ................
I've also seen a few china made plastic built things for the Mk1 etc vans on eB** but question quality or lack of and could end up worse than I am now so have stuck with the PITA leak and a new gasket with some RTV silicon Goo at the part or parts not sealing to well .....................
If it still leaks dont over tighten it or slobber lashings of Goo in there I've been told ... It'll only get worse.................
I've got van insured with saga I think its on 10,000 miles PA [Had Van 5 0r 6 years and barely done 20,000 mls total with it] which i'll never use for £180 with 90 days euro this happened obviously because of my age now and being insured as a motorhome which it is registered as and my policy at time would only insure it as a modified van but it had more mods than they wanted to cover so anyway I took no claims and a refund else where and Saga gave me 15 years intro on my diesel golf also at the time I think life is harder now as rep said un able to apply discounts this year when I called ... not the cheapest but I don't believe in fully comp and cheapen cover by more than £100 voluntary excess to bring it to a total of £200 ... Motorcycles I never offer any voluntary excess and always look for a total of £100 ecess with 90 days EU and same cover in EU as in UK as One year I ended up in southern ireland with minimum cover for there [It's one thing to be told this but not hiden in small print ... So ask] when I found out thought Never again and changed ............. all vehicles I have are looked at same way
That's crazy ... I thought all three vans were the same being built in the same factory and a Badge engineering exercise .........................
Other than the 1.6 petrol FIAT Van to use a FIAT engine and being the only one to use a different make of engine ...............
Being the age these MK1 Vans are at good used parts are thining out ... would it be possible to weld up the wear and ream out to size at a push ............................
Does anyone know if it's possible to get smaller sliding windows than these? These ones are 750 x 240, which isn't the worst, but if I could get slightly smaller it would be nice. Look for ideally under 750, maybe 600-700mm in length.
https://dispatchexpertscudo.org.uk/forum/img/members/1305/mini_small-sliding-window.jpeg
Small sliding window @ eBayI am looking to put one or two on the back side panels, high up to give me a bit of airflow, while maintaining privacy. Something like this.
https://dispatchexpertscudo.org.uk/forum/img/members/1305/mini_Peugeot_Expert_Window_Placement.jpeg
One problem I see is a massive strut that runs down the inside of that panel in the middle. It doesn't look structural but i'm still hesitant on whether to cut through it. Is it ok to cut it?
My Van stated life out as just that a 815 Enterprise Van so I assume that brace was cut out to install the glass and the plastic blank thingy behind where the wardrobe is ... In front of what would have been a replacement window on the otherside .................
I don't really know because apparently it's a professionally built conversion [There's all the hallmarks off] and obviously done several years before I got it ..................
Also I'm fairly sure they fitted the Glass to the rear doors as well.....................
We have also looked at using [But doutful as we are currently skint] the DFDS sailing out of Newcastle to Ijmuden But then on to the likes of Poland [Warsaw] or Austian Alps [Not been to the Eiger or Innsbruck since I was a kid] as I for one no longer fancy the drive to Dover then through France or to portsmouth for the boat if going to see her dad in Spain [Although that's getting to be a necessity with his age Plus other considerations] ...................
Isn't it funny how age and being locked down colours your view ..............

You know its not just Hull to Rotterdam? Same post and still P&O does Hull to Zeebrugge what is Belgium but of you are chancing your luck and stocking up better crossing into Luxemburg as the tax is even less. As for the allowance i will still be bring shed loads home. Sadly we got our Rottie put down last week but she had a passport and came with is. Pre Ferry checks home they would never put the sniffer dogs in or near our bus. More so if they seen us letting the dog walk round the bus and have a piss. I presume the cent does something to the sniffers ability to sniff that day. Anyway they just send in a border control officer who only looks in large spaces where you can smuggle an illegal immigrant. No fag or booze checks and never a drugs check even after we told them we were in Amsterdam the night before. Ill grant you trying to hide stuff about your vans will be a lot harder than my Convoy bus but still doable.
Casper P&O no longer sail to Zeebuge from Hull ... I only found this out recently when the memsab fancied doing a re-run of the mini cruise we did there a couple years ago [How time flies - when your enjoying yourself
] and only Rotterdam and ijmuden [Amsterdam] were the only available sailings for any listing..................
Many moons ago when truck driving over there I tended to find in france that things [their tolerance levels with brits anyway] got much worse as far as the shrug of sholders and the inaudible french phrase [Probibly Merde] and them walking off- Happened the closer I got to a ferry port when asking a question ETC [My accent may have on occasion helped or the it was The Auld Alliance ... speaking English didnt] ...................
I have I admit been flabbergasted at the french attitude with me at times and the thing we were or not doing then [inc plod]
Plod in belgium have pulled a Gun on me ... Just after asking me for all my paperwork inc the vehicles ............
That scares me lots that a gun can legally be used on you in Europe ...............
Yes I know it's for their protection and what have they just walked into ... But they are still a Human ................
I don't fancey being on my high moral horse from a Hospital bed or a box ..............
A Return trip to Bilbao or Santander can still be very cost prohibitive [But look at the cost of Dover - Calais prices now as well]
I feel like Im pushing it [DW8] in Van if Im constantly showing 75 ......................
And 90 in the 306 [Gearing] ..............
It must be an age thing now as I have the driving record that claims I'm a speeder
........... ....
Some circuits are controled by relays...............
Being used as a camper and can be a high humid enviroment although a relay might appear to be working it could be cruddy and still pass a little voltage it can go both ways i.e. more likely stop when meant to work ...........................
A clean up like an old set of points can work wonders .............
Like that's what you wanted to hear .....................
I'm hopeless with electrics and loathe them..................
I've NO JuJu/patience in what needs doing ... a black art.............
I'm inclined to argree with pathfinder 100 these days............
Although it's a relatively easy job on these engines ................
Bad things do happen when things go wrong here and we are all human ...........
I started to take this view after my divorce and she paid elswhere for the work I farmed out as my ex still wanted stuff attended to on the car I supplied as part of settlement [and I have back again via my daughter ... It's a long story]..................
At least someone else now carries the confidence in their work and the can when the Sh** hits the fan...............
As I've got older and less flexable I've More and more farmed this type of work out ...............
The trick is in finding someone you entrust to delegate the work too ......................
kenbw2 wrote:I know I tried swapping out a Synergie dashboard to see if its rev meter would work, but unfortunately not. Where would you get the signal from?
Some alternators have an output signal.
I've discovered this but unsure where it would be needed looks like flywheel pickup and probably wants a thread drilled and tapping
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/293708755552 … %7Ciid%3A1
More likely to fit a onboard water level guage and although China products ... Required things start to mount up
Might it be easier to find and splice a RPM signal off of the diagnostic feed

"Snap"
OBD port??? science fiction in 1998.
Funny thing My early 1996 "N" Reg mk 3 golf diesel has an obd port fitted ......................
I must admit using the VW Scanner it appears the only thing that's readable is the air bag .........................
When asked "Does it have any electronics in it" ? ...........................
My answer is "Of course ... A Wireless !" ................................
As I've been having some Speedo issues [Working when it feels like it] ........................
I thought that an hourmeter might be a suitable backup ......................................
I found on eB** that there is a combined Hourmeter read out and rev counter ..............
These are in 52mm or 85 mm size for diesel or petrol engined vehicles, boats and generators etc ...Avaiable with various rev ranges ................
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/293790197879 … SwaShf-VAT ....................................
Any thoughts or has anybody used this .......................
Mabye I should just look at plan A and have just a working hourmeter for when engine is running .............
Allegedly It comes with multi plug and wiring for set up/ pick up signal and instrutions with the ubiquitous Chingish [No dout] ........................
I also with Kenbw2 fancy a reccounter ....................
Just a working tachometer ... It negates any fafing about with phone, torque which becomes a PITA fairly quickly ..............................
I beleive you can use a non turbo pump on a tubo'd engine but it needs to be reset and unlike "proper" turbo pumps you don't get the variable rising rate fuel delivery that's required for effective boost from the non turbo pump as the settings are a static linear rise .......................
Just as you could fit a turbo pump to a non turbo engine but all that would happen is lots of black smoke from unburnt fuel and NO horse power gains.......................
You can also I beleive can get more powerful turbo pumps I.E. if standard dispensing nozzles =10mm increase the size to 11or 12mm nozzles and get more given flow of fuel in same time frame ... Obviously this = possible pump modifications or a diffrent pump form another higher speced vehicle that fits this engine.................
Yes you can get van rated Alloys for a/This van ... My 2005 Van came with a set on it when bought......................
Obviously fitted when Van was converted fairly new and for sale by the professional converters so should be weight rated...............................
[Ive had Van 5 or 6 years without issue and been to Galicia in Spain at least a couple of times with it]
As Casper Says Alfa rims fit ... Can't for the life of me remember the name or size [15 or 16 inch] of the type to go for or what model their from.................
But whatever their called the most common variety available appear to be the round hole sort ... A peper pot style/type ..........................
And seem to be a popular fitment to this Van ..............
5x98 IIRC is fitment size the centre bore is anything over about 58.1 or 2 mm and a ET of about 30 or 35 for standard rim....................
Don't take my word for it some Alfa rimtyre combo I beleive can rub on struts etc ................
I got a pass on my MOT back in august or September and an advisory I got was a small section of floor near to where the sill connects just behind front wheel is getting cruddy and is coming from the inside out .. That's needing looked at .............
As I had sills fitted about a couple years ago for that very reason .........................
I've figure that the vapor barrier seal has been broken or breached and moisture is finding it's way down to the bottom inside of Van as it's now been converted for well over 10 ...12 yrs .......................
I don't disagree with you. Electric isn't the be all and end all of the argument. I suspect in the end either Hydrogen or ultimately (in many years) Fusion, will be the way around the problem. I also don't disagree with his thoughts on wind power. Wind doesn't blow all the time. Tides on the other hand are like clockwork and tidal flow is similarly mapped out, so that's what we should be using to generate power. But for some time their has been some underlying problem with governments committing to use or explore it, as an option. The only working model I know of currently is the Orkney/MeyGen Tidal Stream Turbine, that is capable of generating large amounts of electricity.
Anyway electric makes sense to me if you work locally and need a small range, also if you generate a ton of power yourself and can afford to redirect it into charging a car. But beyond that I think hybrids are the way to go for now, like the Prius. Unfortunately I haven't seen any hybrid vans, but they probably exist. I have seen a hydrogen powered van, but the amount of space the tank took up was pretty crazy. Also the thought of sleeping on a tank of hydrogen fills me with nightmares.
For now, I can't afford anything besides my current van, so it's moot.
I concur ...........................
I was just so surprised that someone so switched on to environmental issues would express that opinion...............................
It brings me back to the so called experts telling us How the future will be ..........................
They might as well try to pin the tail on the Donkey ........................
Human nature is like water and will take the easiest path to flow .......................
It's not a sticky caliper slider pin, it's a design feature, as pictured. Perhaps the caliper is not the same as others, I know there are two types of pad, which are not interchangeable.
My sticky Caliper was not the slider pins but the piston it's self not retracting properly and a quick stab on the pedal or a squirt of maitainance spray around the piston behind boot stopped the dragging squeek hence change as things were getting worse ...................
Anyway well done at resolving MOT issue ..............
I recently had a chat with the dentist who lives across from me who very recently along with his daughter bought a new car as well as him [both brand new] ........................
I said I was a bit surprised that both of you bought a new dino powered car as I thought you both were so switched on to global warming ETC ............................
This is when I found out his thoughts were not so different to mine ... First of all he said same as me you get nothing for nothing...................
He also said and that electric vehicle are currently just transferring pollution and concentrating it else where as the power for it has to come from somewhere to make it move .....................
He then said they don't have the range that either of them needs as his daughter now lives and works in the Shetland isles.................
I said I thought that up there it would be near perfect because of less distance to be able to travel .................
His response was much the same as johnDragonman's that range is an issue especially the need to catch ferries and in a climate that is colder especially winter where batteries are concerned and we should be looking at hydrogen ................
His reasoning for getting a Normal car even though he looked at electric [Their all kinda switched on there] ..........
Was the same = Range and charge times along with infastructure .................
He also Said he didn't really believe in wind power and we should stop building them ............
As he thought enough is enough where they have blighted great swathes of the UK with them especilly in windier and more beautiful remote parts of Scotland and lots of the time they are switched off because it is to windy for them to operate ...............
As a energy source it is to unreliable to count on .........................
I was surprised that such an environmentally switched on family ............
Had thoughts that were so close to mine............
The one thing he said that I found shocking was .................
In his mind So many young folk are so switched on about saving the planet ..................
But are So ready to use and discard items at their backside pollute and or fill up landfill sites at the drop of a hat..................
Basiclly readily wasting resources without any real thought ..................
So economics, range where two days to get to get a few hundered miles, infastructure and resources does matter after all ...............
He did say that currently Hydrogen is power costly to produce but is so abundant and it's tail pipe emissions are water so clean you could drink plus conversion of current vehicles would not be such a waste of resources plus we need something else to fall back on a plan B so to speak and all our eggs are not in one basket ....................
It's good practice to change water pump when doing the timing belt kit especially if your unsure of history ...............
It's a relatively simple straight forward job................
Just the usual tight on space...............
I had a heater that went cold on idle a good many moons ago it was a diesel engine not a PSA one but a Perkins.............
I was hoping it was something like a thermostat..................
No signs of overheating or the likes ..................
It turned out to be a failed head gasket..................
Yet I had a V8 Perkins in a Ford Cargo that blew all the water out .......................
Flatened the hoses and was burning my feet through shoes when I was standing on engine to find that the fan had exploded ... Taken out most of shroud and gone through radiator .......................
But never touched engine during repair and we drove it for countless miles for about next three years ................................
I'm still not certain if mine is the DW8 B variant or not (there is A and B).
In answer to your question ................. YES
I have a 2000 W reg Peugeot 306 and it's fitted with a DW8 and a Bocsh pump engine code WJZ .................
The van's a 2005 with a DW8B and a lucas pump [Delphi] engine code WJY..........
The van has some computor input on it's engine the 306 is all mechanical............
IIRC ... The Van has a wire coming off the fourth injector.................
I believe some late 90's and very early 2000 Dispatch's and prefacelift Berlingo's got a DW8...........
Don't think any of our vans got Bocsh pumps but some MK1 Berlingo's did but I think it was pot luck as well as 306's .............
If the shaft comes out G/box there is a good chance you will lose a good bit of oil out of the box but No damage should have been done but make sure you reseat shaft in box and refill the box before you use van ......................
CV joints are a real PITA to split and reassemble you might have been better using a sticky boot [Their split and you stick them together on refiting] I dont personally like them hence why I had the cone, but it would get you out a bind ................
Cones aren't to terribly expensive there plastic I had at least two maybe three at one time [probably get them for 10 or £12 now IIRC mine were about 5 or £6 at time] ..........................
Apart from never having to change a Radiator etc yet or the need to empty out system as yet.................
I would also probably find it difficult to bleed system ... As I've never seen any bleeders when under there .............
But I've never looked either! ........................
I chaged my glow plugs last year and year before IIRC both OAT and Casper are both correct .................
OAT is right that on my DW8 access is not clever and when I did the plugs change myself it created lots of swear words and blood and like Casper it didn't seem to do a lot ................
I put it down to cheapo glow plugs used and them being crap ................
I then just coinky dinky changed battery ... Unless you used Van every day or just about every other day it seamed to loose puff quickley............
As battery was ultimately dying it was changed and cold starts were all but instant again on a single heat on plug light going out.............
It's back to being sluggish to start again in the realy cold snaps we've had ... So I'm thinking down a plug and I'm reluctant to be back at it again ... Maybe battery's lowish again or better still check battery maintainer thing I got for battery when I remember to use it ..........................
Van will have done a moon like mileage if lucky of about 1,000mls in last year.........................
Or I'm talking through my ar** again.................
