#26 Re: Maintenance » Clunking From NS Front Hub Suspension Area? » 2023-10-05 23:40:18

I've got creaking and clunking too, both arms getting replaced next week along with the droplinks.

I thought the creaking was high up and central but after my mech oiled the drop link bushes as a fault finding measure the creaking seems to have stopped. Just the clunks now.. Until next week hopefully

You could be on to something there, I don't think I've noticed it happen since I changed my alternator so could've been a bad connection.

As for the other cables, one obviously for the battery but I think the other thick one is for the glow plugs. At least, I had glow plug fault codes stored when the alternator was fitted and left one of the cables loose. Not sure why it doesn't come straight off the battery.

I also have a 4th wire coming off that post as my air horn is mounted in the free space near the washer filler so made more sense as there's also a tidy earth point on the wing.

Posh, but your Tesla display is in wrong place! I got it
https://dispatchexpertscudo.org.uk/foru … hp?id=1789 just self adhesive velcro is needed.
ANW, can you split that, so the other part would be navigation?

(Hope) tomorrow I'll have my van back to see what can be done with the apps you are using

It was a relatively pricey addition but was a much lower than RRP ebay purchase a while ago (it's survived a few Citroëns so far). It's a proper head unit so will play background audio/radio and you can also split screen (side by side), also has built in steering wheel controls function so didn't need my old connect interface or whatever it was called.

I do like your linked solution, shame about the vent though, that plastic is so brittle sad mine was already shattered when I bought the van but was lucky enough to get one from my doner vehicle

#29 Re: General Discussion » Thermostat "upgrade" » 2023-10-04 23:09:22

I understand the need to cater to extremes and leaving the pointlessness of fiddling for diminishing returns aside, wouldn't a warmer thermostat not make a difference at the top end?

Whether it engages at 77 or 87, by the time they're getting into the high 90s they'd both have long been fully open and the rad/fans doing their thing. (I'm not 100% sure on what the half and full open temps are but I'm sure you get what I mean).

At least that's my logic anyway
The only thing I can think that would play differently is if a modified and unmodified otherwise equally engine claimed the same hill I suppose one has an x degree head start over the other, but on a long enough hill, I'd guess they'd soon equal out at a given higher temp

FWIW, Just took mine on the dual carriage way for several miles and with no heating on it maxed at 78C with 12C ambient (EGR status undisclosed...)

I use Obdlink as I have an Obdlink Lx but it'll only work with obdlink hardware. The Torque app works for any hardware as far as I know.

Having recently upgraded to an obdlink MX+ (more functionality for mazda and fords) I also use other apps like Forscan for diagnostics (when I don't need to break out the lexia for PSA stuff).

Edit to clarify that the obdlink app only works with obd link hardware

Has anyone dabbled with swapping the thermostat for one that kicks in a bit warmer?

My 2.0 HDi seems to sit cooler than any of my other HDIs have done in the past including a 2.0 807.

Seems the dial pointing off to the left is normal for our vehicles whether they're 1.9,td or hdi - I'd replaced my old one when I first got the van as I didn't know any better and no change.
Wouldn't there be a fuel saving for getting the engine a bit warmer?

I've only ever got the needle slightly past 12 o'clock by driving her hard up an inclined dual carriageway over about 15 miles in the few warm days of summer we had above 25C.
Clearly, the engine has bags of cooling power at it's disposal and it's my understanding a later thermostat wouldn't cause any issue with unwanted higher temps as once it's on it's on. Surely ~85 C would be a bit better than 79C or whatever it is now.

A side question on a similar topic, does anyone block their grille up in winter? I know the xsara picasso (or was it the C4 Pic) had a snow grille for 10C and below

#34 Re: General Discussion » Instrument Cluster swapping out info. » 2023-10-01 12:15:57

I have an odb reader and link it to my android head unit. Can leave it on dashboard mode for revs and speed etc. Speed displayed isnt offset for the usual 2 mph they put on the speedometer so assuming wheels and tyres are correct, it's the real speed.

#35 Re: General Discussion » [WTB] Snorkel for a driver, leak from outside in a footwell » 2023-09-01 00:18:07

Wish I'd seen this when it was posted I could've saved you a lot of time lol

Having noticed blocking up on my old xsara picasso, one of the first things I did after buying my van was pop those pipes open and flushed hot water down then. One wasn't too bad but the other (also LHS) glugged out a fair bit of sludge.

#36 Re: General Discussion » Aftermarket horn advice » 2023-08-31 19:28:45

To follow up on the this, I ended up installing the horn by bolting it on to the frame near the screenwash filler as was too big to fit elsewhere. Mounted the new relay to one of the ecu screws and grounded to the nearby point just forward of it. It was easier to run the Batt+ to the alternator connection but I still had to extend both relay wires over to the other side where the old horn used to be (probably only needed to run 1 but meh). Run then under the rubber love the radiator so fairly neat. Need to do a better job on the batt+ add I've cake types of to the loom instead of sinking it in but it started raining heavy so that's a fight for another day

Sounds like a train...

Well, sadly it seems as I approach my 40s, I've already lost the horn ops

Good news though, I have an aftermarket trumpet arriving today. It comes with a relay and everything needed to run it direct off the battery but I'm wondering if I can just get away with hooking it up to the old cabling (if there's room)

Contrary to what I've read about the older models, my face lift has a 20A fuse behind the glovebox (F17). So presumably that's going to be enough headroom for the original wiring and relay to handle.

It may turn out I have to site the horn elsewhere as it's a double straight horn and not the snail design, but thought I'd ask here first

Also, is there a resource for relays ID and locations like the fuse diagrams? I've never given much thought on how they work on a vehicle, but in a simple world there'd be an individual relay for each accessory fuse but surely that would be an awful lot of relays.

#39 Re: General Discussion » Odd electrics issue » 2023-07-05 17:25:41

Ken has reminded me of another thing I've noticed. Sometimes my blower will stay on at engine off (1 click and 2 click on the key) it never stays on with key fully off though.
I wonder if that's a sticky relay

#40 Re: Maintenance » Hot vacuum solonoid » 2023-07-01 15:49:32

It seems a bit more searching has uncovered an answer to the original question by quoting @JohnDragonMan

"the solenoid on the left controls the EGR. the one on the right controls the waste gate."
https://dispatchexpertscudo.org.uk/foru … hp?id=1438

So looks like a replacement is required. Maybe swapping them in the meantime is better?

If anyone else also wants to chime in with the other little gripes I mentioned, by all means you are welcome.

Anybody know what the solonoid next to the coolant tank is for.
IMG-20230701-WA0008.jpeg
There's 2 hanging under the scuttle on my 2.0 HDi. The left one near the PS fluid tank is cool. The one by the coolant is too hot to touch for more than 2-3s noticed it was loose on the bracket so went to tighten it up.

To clarify it's been idling for 30 mins while I was doing some other jobs so not sure if it's hot when driving and it doesn't seem to be heating up when engine off but key on 2nd position. Edit - it takes about 2 minutes of engine running to go from cool plastic to uncomfortable so probably 3 minutes to hot.

I'm guessing the solenoid is stuck on or shorting

Extra info for any Columbo's in the audience..
On a cold start I think I can just about hear the turbo during the lower gear changes/ as the higher revs drop so maybe a waste gate controlled by this?

I also get a stiff brake pedal if I pump the brake quickly about 5 times with engine on although it recovers within a second (noticed in the winter before I replaced my abs ring and and to slow on icey roads the old fashioned way)

On a cold day after idling for a few minutes (no smoke on start) I get some grey white smoke that disapates into the air fairly quick and then stops once the engine has warmed up more so possibly Egr? (seems too smokey for condensation)

So I know all of these things rely on vacuum (I think the egr does anyway) but have done no fault finding on them as the vacuum hoses seem to disappear into the abyss and now I've found this hot solonoid I'd like to rule out whatever it's controlling.

#42 Re: General Discussion » Odd electrics issue » 2023-06-30 18:58:45

So about to revisit this.
Many thanks for the suggestions, but I have a concern about the max current of 1500mA for the At41 - fine for the permanent siting of my dongle but my phone charger is apparently capable of superfast charging which would mean it could be up to 3-4A at 12V plus useability for compressors etc.

It did point me in the direction of other devices though and even on amazon there's 10A (under £5) and 20A (under £10) so I think I'll invest in one of those.. Unless I'm completely missing the point and you're connecting the AT41 to manage a relay or something?

#43 Re: General Discussion » Odd electrics issue » 2023-06-22 18:08:55

Agreed, sounds like a nice solution.

I'll pick up a few of them seeing as they're cheap as chips (pun very much intended).

I wonder if anyone has noticed odd behaviour with 12v socket devices on ignition start or if its unique to my van.

I have 2 devices used regularly, and both don't alway like how the van powers up for some reason. One is a usb charger, it always powers up but if my phone is plugged init will often trigger a MOISTURE DETECTED IN CHARGING PORT alarm not unlike red alert on the USS Enterprise D! This only happens in the van (cables and charger regularly used in other vehicles tried a different cable etc etc)

My other device is a 4g wifi dongle. Sometimes it just doesn't come on until I pull out and push back in after ignition and it runs fine.

I've since run a second 12v socket into the rear (those round holes in the bulkheads are a perfect fit and loads of room to run wires). It is independent of the dash 12v socket but still connects to an "unused" port in the glove box fuse board. The behaviour is identical though.

I've noticed that when clicking through the ignition key the power is cut even between first and second clicks which isn't something I've noticed on other vehicles (it is a 3rd party ignition barrel, maybe that's something to do with it?) so maybe it's the quick power on/off/on that's upsetting the devices?

Was this somewhat a cul-de-sac of an endeavour or did either of you get any success?
I didn't realise that our engine versions were electronically controlled CC vs mechanical so never gave it much thought but would love to add this as a quick project if it's dooable and not financially unviable!
I have a lexia (currently misplaced) but last time I hooked it up it showed very basic options vs my same year XPic

#46 Re: Maintenance » Sliding door maintenance. » 2023-06-16 15:27:16

I have had a few near misses!

The nearside one was almost as bad although I was able to free that one so it'll hold for the weekend until I can access my parts supply (a cambeltless 56 plate 1.9d) the doors are much smoother on that one so I'm hopeful they'll be in a swappable condition. The passenger side check strap has now found a new home on my drivers door so the neighbours will probably appreciate any early morning starts a bit more at least...

All these parts seem to have a very sticky grit attracting grease in common

I've recently been adjusting the sliding doors and despite successfully getting the edges pulled after reading a lot of helpful advise here I couldn't get the door to sit as high as I'd like. It would just slightly rub the sill as it would shut and has always been a bit rough to open and close.

Well I thought I'd share my findings.. on closer inspection I could see the lower slider bearings weren't turning at all.

On even closer inspection, the main wheel has developed a slight puncture...  yikes

FluxBB bbcode test

No wonder I couldn't get the door higher.
I'm amazed the door operated as well as it did, it seems the middle runner has been working double shifts.

#48 Re: General Discussion » Installing an aftermarket CD player / Radio » 2023-06-15 22:25:33

Good point, I'll have to watch out for that myself.
Planning on upgrading the door speakers and also have a pair in the back. Can't decide whether to mount on the side panel ply or put them in the roof ply yet though. Was thinking they'd be less obstructed up top when carrying a load/camping gear.

#49 Re: Maintenance » Citroen Dispatch side sliding door not closing properly » 2023-06-15 22:07:15

Hopefully it's not frowned upon to resurrect older threads, but it's not the busiest forum in the world so just wanted to add my thanks for this useful thread and bolster the chances of anyone who comes along in the future with the same problem.
I'd added the locator buckets and adjusted the locators weeks ago but they didn't make much difference and I've had the doors ratchet strapped ever since.
Revisited the doors today and found that the rear latch made ALL the difference in my case.
I moved it inwards as far as it could go and boom the door was tight to the frame. Too tight to open though so backed it off a bit and now I have a perfectly sealed door that I can't even get my fingers in to pull it out.
Never would've thought to adjust that part of the mechanism on my own.

Biggest con by far is a company called "Connects2" they advertise these leads that link new to old plugs and steering wheel control adapters and all that. All they do is charge a fortune for their parts. When they don't work or don't fit, they treat you like scum and push away from you. They have a customer don't care department and terrible help line and tech help. Only interested in taking your money and ignoring you.

I had one of these for an old Xpic and aftermarket CD player but after upgrading to an android HU and much fiddling, realised the android ones could handle the controls on their own. After the xpic died I've put it in my Dispatch and still works great. Much simpler (once you know the pinout of course).
