Merry Christmas to all Dispatch/Scudo/Expert forum members.

I've not posted for a few months, I've been busy with a new gf and a college course.

The old girl (the van, not the gf) fired up nicely after sitting for a month or so and I used her for commuting for a couple of weeks. Trip over to N.Wales yesterday with no issues.

I might SORN her for a month to put off taxing her in the New Year, but sure.

I can't wait to hit the road for my usual road trips next year; North/Mid Wales; Dumf and Gall.; Highlands

The van performed well, its approaching 200K. I was going to stick to Dumfries and Galloway but I thought what the heck.
The Dunnon ferry has crept up to £18 but it was a holiday treat I dont use it often.
Usual travelling fayre: porridge, soup, packet pasta cooked on a gas trangia
About 48mpg, not as good as I'd hoped but not bad.

I needed a change of scenery...
Day 1 Motored north, headed for Gourock, crossed to Dunoon, rolled into Jubilee Point in the Bute Forest on the way to Inverary.
Day 2 Headed up to Inverary, started to follow my nose up towards Tyndrum, Glencoe, Ft William. Headed over to Glenelg and spent the evening on the beach in the drizzle. Parked up on the Mam Ratagan pass.
Day 3 Having decided that I'm not fit enough to tackle Beinn Sgreathall I headed over to Skye and had a lovely drive round. Headed to Plockton then over to Inverness. Headed down the glens and parked up south of Glasgow at Biggar.
Day 4 Drove over to Hawick and found the track to Riccarton Junction, walked over to have a look at the abandoned village then started south.
Photos to follow.
I really must find a travelling companion so that I don't spend all the time driving!!
A fine adventure.

Is there enough space to squeeze in another fan and have it on a switch? Just for emergencies and steep hills??

#108 Re: Maintenance » Dim/hard to read odometer. » 2019-08-21 22:42:52

Bit of a pain to get to but is it worth a spray with contact cleaner and some new bulbs??

#109 Re: General Discussion » Intermittent wipers ? » 2019-08-16 20:59:14

I've found that its handy having a can of lectrical contact cleaner in the workshop with these Van's.

I picked at the blisters on the sills...it opened up into a hole and I needed to weld it!!

Gotta love the old toll bridge at Penmaenpool.

Trying to get my wild goats photo to upload.

Finally I managed to get away for a few days.

Monday-drove down to N.Wales, had tea near the Bryn Tirion ruins on Denbigh moor, cut over the Ysbyty Ifan road to Ffestiniog, then rolled into a lay by in Maentwrog.

Tuesday-drove into the hills above Harlech to Llyn Cwm Bychan (you can overnight there for £5). Climbed Rhinog Fawr. Drove back and on to Criccieth to visit a friend, returned to Maentwrog to park up.

Wednesday-drove south crossed the estuary at Penmaenpool, followed the coast to Aberystwyth. Raining for most of the day. Parked on the A44 near Plynlimon. Very windy in the night and loads of rain.

Thursday-headed to Llangurig and started north towards Oswestry. Cut off on the A5 to Llangollen and crossed the moors on the Ruthin road. Stopped to see a mate at Llandegla and visited another mate in Cheshire on the way back.

Good run, not worked out the mpg yet.
I'll try and upload a couple of photos.

#113 Re: Maintenance » Fiat Scudo 2.0 JTD 2004, Orange K light illuminating on the dash? » 2019-07-23 07:11:02

I've got an old Frontera that was throwing up an EGR fault, took out the EGR and cleaned it etc, still showed the fault. Noticed a split vacuum pipe, so replaced it, hey presto no EGR fault showing!

#114 Re: Maintenance » No anti roll bar MOT fail! » 2019-07-23 07:08:53

VOSA are tightening up massively with checks, I've spoken to two MOT testers in the last 6 weeks, both have had an undercover VOSA man submit a vehicle for testing with known faults.

#115 Re: General Discussion » MOT failed, scrap or repair ? » 2019-07-23 07:04:45

Back box is easy enough to do yourself, make sure the van is supported on axle stands. £40 ish
Removing the suspension strut is a little bit more advanced, a hydraulic coil spring compressor is needed to make fitting a new spring easier, so that's probably a garage job. £40 ish plus two hours labour.
I seem to remember doing a CV boot on my Cit BX, it wasn't too difficult, not something I've done on mine.
No idea about the sub frame bush.
Can the power steering pipe be tightened up??

#116 Re: General Discussion » Economy - How many miles per tank do you get? » 2019-07-23 06:59:00

I usually get 45mpg on a run up to Scotland, I dont go above 65mph on the motorway.

Mine was knocking quite bad before I replaced both bottom ball joint pinch bolts.

Was that knock on compression or rebound?

Mine is giving a distinct single knock on rebound.

Mine passed the MOT last year, then a mate of mine who's a garage owner, was travelling in the passenger side and commented about the bottom ball joint.
He told me to get a crowbar onto the spigot that sticks up and see if theres any play. The bottom ball joint is under compression and any vertical play is not necessarily picked up on the MOT.
When I removed the pinch bolt there was some wear to it so I bought a new bolt, replaced it and hey presto, no movement. I did the other side a fortnight later when I noticed it going clunk.

Seriously though, what's stopping you?

Unbelievably busy weekend, all day Sat dealing with my son who had an emergency appendectomy, all day Sun moving my daughters uni accommodation.
I reckon it'll be Aug before I head off.
My head says Wales, but my heart says Scotland.

Fair play, I had a Cit BX with a n/a XUD and a 405 with a turbo XUD, both were really good motors.

Pete.

Would make sense but mine is TD.

After 2 days of calls between the tester, myself, VOSA and a local Peugeot dealer, they are now going to pass it.

Apparently...

According to Peugeot approx 50% were fitted with anti roll bars's.  According to my VIN, mine wasn't.

VOSA told the tester to fail it as the brackets indicated an arb had been removed.

Peugeot advised that the mounting brackets were fitted as their captive bolts were used to hold another component (?)

VOSA said in that case it could be passed.

Tester will pass and append a reference to his discussion with VOSA.

Saved me at least £300 I suspect.  smile

Good result

I'll be up in that area in the summer I suspect, I'll try and suss it out. Some good locations up there for a run out in convoy!
