Update on the above, for the first time since getting the van my temp gauge now almost gets to half way when driving, and it seems the timing is no longer being retarded as it's pulling a lot better, I mean it's still slow but does seem happier getting to 70 and running out of puff, instead of running out at 55/60 and having to wring its neck to get to 70!

Even EuroCarParts take the piss. Looking at timing belt kits for my Maxus last night. Cheap brand one came in at £145 quid. That was with using the W/E discount code. Same never heard of brand was around 100 quid on ebay. CarParts4less is cheaper that Euro yet its the same company. Anyway never bought the kit. Going into Edinburgh later Today and get one out the motor factors as even Euro could not get it in for Click N Collect till tomorrow.

How did you get no with the belt? I can always arrange for my mate to grab one at trade price if need be? smile

Note: I'm currently drilling holes in the roof of my van to bodge on a cheap halfords solar panel, decided I'm gonna spend as little as possible till I know it's gonna pass another MoT lol.

Agree, some of the parts prices are stupid for vans. Got myself a new set of OE genuine Fiat gear link cables for my Scudo on Ebay for £76 inc delivery which still seems steep, but I think they would be £200 from the main stealer if I understand correctly. Broke a door mirror, shell and glass, few years ago. No pattern parts for mine at the time as it's leccy and heated. Another trip to dealer and £190 poorer after. Had to have one, as you don't realise how much you rely on door mirrors driving a van until suddenly one is missing. Even though my van does have rear-view mirror and glazed rear doors.

Your Dispatch looks like a work in progress.

Sorry to add, isn't every old vehicle a constant work in progress? Like my almost 216k mile MK4 golf, I'll keep it till the chassi si not worth repairing, a bit like the dispatch...can't beat the old stuff for easy fixes/reliability. smile

Dispatch has been a good 15k miles somehow, since i got it, a slow 15k miles but its only just now no longer got a massie mountain bike in the back, so it's time to make it a bit more homely, I have some clean pallets coming soon, so we'll see smile

Best,

Well I'll be...check this out, prices on euro site versus what my mate get sthem for (cost) as hes a manager...

HaaS coolant temp sensor, bosch oil filter, bosch fuel filter, 5 litres QX 5/40 (Almost same as PD oil) and x4 hub caps.... £88 something, add website discount code... £66 something.... then send that list to my mate... £20!!!! - The markup this lot and many other are making is crazy, asssholes.

Sorry, Stu - what does this mean. Is the sensor broken up? Where did the copper come from?

Hi bud, sorry for not being clear I was quite tired while posting (Insomnia), basically as I removed the temp sensor I and faced it up towards me to look at it, it had a crack in brear the threads meet the nut kind of thing and as I tilted it back towards where I removed it the end fell off.. but was then pushed up towards me by the coolant that had eventually decided to surge out lol. When I look at the old sensor it;s had a crack for a while, perhaps I over torqued it when putting it in, I've since been much gentler with the new one I got tonight and added a couple of washers to it.

Thanks in advance

Rachel

If you have water coming in, it might be the drain points at the bottom of the windscreen. The rubber tubes can get blocked and the water backs up into the fan air intake.

Yes ive had this too, they run down into the wheel arch and poke through, rattle them with a old wire coat hanger, a good wiggle etc, should clean them out smile

Yes bud and the partprices are silly for silly things, I knew my 04 Dispatch was getting rare lolm but theres many other cars that have similar parts and are cheaper if not searching for van parts, e.g many things/almost everything on my 2004 dw8B dispatch (non turbo) are...

Citroen Berlingo | C2 | C4 | C5 | C6 | C8 | Dispatch | Nemo | Synergie | Xsara & Picasso
Fiat Scudo 1.9 | Ulysee 2.0 / 2.2 / 2.3
Peugeot 106 II | 206 | 207 | 306 | 307 | 406 | 407 | 607 | 806 | 807 | 1007 | Bipper | Expert | Partner

Edit: I love my VW too but size wise a old dispatch has more room in  back for a basic camper etc, maybe a lwb MK4 style caddy with a 1.9 PD would be better... BUT they are too slim and not really long enough, I've been there and done that when it comes to comparing and while I love the 1.9 PD engine and know lots about it, I'll stick with whats inthe dispatch till it cracks or the thing wont pass an MOT without too much being spent lol. smile

My carpet was ruined recently from moving an old engine with oil in it, this is about as clean as I could get the wood sad - Bugger it, basic home from home big_smile

So, my daily is normally my trusty MK4 golf, I bought it in January 2018 with a suspected blowing head for £300, 169k on clock, 1 owner to 165k, full VW service history... anyway lots has happened between then and now, I did 60k on the orignal engine but with the map I was running oroginal turbo eventually popped.. so...new engine (05 fabia VRS), subframe, turbo rebuild etc etc, if there is interest I can post more? I don't want to spam if no interest lol. It's still an ingong project, much like the Dispatch, I know it intimately so want to keep it on the road, damn thing is almost new in so many aspects (the golf Lol)...I will probably do the same for the dispatch, given how many are not left on the road lol.

Cheers,

Wow what a mission/mess, mines is very rusty but has not broken off yet, bushes and springs seem OK but I think the shocks have had it, rather get a scrapper pair first to test first... I think it's got a bit more life in it than your one though bud, jesus, glad no major injuries/damage when that happened, lucky! smile

#113 Re: General Discussion » Glow Plug Relay » 2021-04-06 00:21:05

I reckon I could make you a glow loom based on the one I have on my van if you really need bud? I have the crimp tools etc but not quite that gauge of wire, I'd need a reel of the correct wire - Edit: The one on mines I just sand papered all the contacts, reflowed/added solder tat the contacts and it's been OK.

Only just seen this post mate, it turned out to be a crack in the manifold... yet it's a non turbo lol, changed that and it's been OK ish, till the weird coolant/temp issues today... in my other post; https://dispatchexpertscudo.org.uk/foru … hp?id=1340

Yes buddy, JR though, I was used to using them for VW/Seat etc and were always OK, then I had this issue with the van ones, then  on m mk4 1.9 golf it was the passenger/drive side driveshaft(short) was actually about 5mm too short, so it pops out the CV when cornering etc..., i've not touched the JR ones since, I just get a OE CV and reuse the shafts etc that I've got.

A Friend with a Caddy van needed CV  joints had about 4 sets and couldn't get ones to fit from supplier {Don't want to say JR and do an injustice but might have been}.........

It was the 2.0L TDI high output 140 bhp and they [supplier] were adamant they could supply but always too small...........
He ended up paying through nose for OEM  from VW..........

He's now moved onto the 1.6TDI  {No idea of the output but its chipped also. Same as before....... for more pain I assume}

I'm not too familiar with the newer ones driveshaft wise, but yeah I'm always running loads of torque mapped and it does kill the CV's, usually the splines on the shaft are OK though I'm not sure if the newer ones use the same or similar.... I've seen they have a plastic sump?? wadafak? lol.

#117 Re: General Discussion » Lower suspension arm & inner tie rod replacment » 2021-04-05 23:59:16

I remember doing this and what an absolute faff it was, I bent so many bars tryng to prise stuff in etc etc, then eventually figured out a way to do it with the bolts being in but slightly loose etc etc, lol, glad that was maybe 2 years ago now and the arms/bj's etc are still OK, not looking forward to the next change... just awkward lol.

Actually a wee tip for you is research what were old military roads (1700's), if it's perth/highlands you are looking for wink Just don't share what you find on this public forum. (There is a way on to these roads but many look cut off, thats a different story for the prvate forum, if we have one lol).

I work on the internet, I could host a forum.. but how to vet people, it;s better contained within this forum where you can see peoples input and then decide... do we let them in lol.

Stu-D wrote:

Jesus that's rough, I managed to knock mines off with a mallett without an issue! - Be careful if using CV joints or shafts from JR driveshafts, you need to make sure its a 27 spline CV or it will not fit into the hub properly and or at the gearbox end, when driving you'll hear a clicking noise as the CV is not seated correctly due to the splines.

Sometimes you have to do what you have to do and come out corner swinging and be prepared to be knocked down.............

It's worth noting though that you may have to count number of splines and tell them how many required...........

That's an awesome setup Ken, I've very interested if I think I can repair the under side.... once I eventally attack it with a hammer, MOT not till December Lol, if it get's past another MOT without me having to weld too much then I'll consider a setup like this, there may even be a mobile version of Starlink by that point... proper digital nomad life! :-P
