I feel saddened by this.
Must get away in mine again soon.
Currently investigating a possible electrical fault, so I daren't go too far.

I've taken her out for a couple of short journeys, no strange noises.
Goodness knows what it is/was

Kenbw2, I'll never forget finding you and your van hiding in the woods  smile

#30 Re: General Discussion » Greater Manchester » 2021-11-21 22:05:06

I've seen the signs going up for this.
It annoys me as my privately owned can is only the same in terms of emissions as a 2.0hdi Xsara or similar.
I dont want to be clobbered with a tenner every time I commute in my van.
Might have to convert a 806 in to a stealth camper.

#31 Re: General Discussion » Met and spoke to a fellow Dispatch owner today » 2021-11-21 22:01:39

I keep seeing a couple on a drive on my way to work, one of them definitely looks like a stealth camper.
I suppose real stealth Euro-vans dont come on here, they're too stealthy.

Could it have been your rear drum brakes for some reason? I've had mine sound very scrapey until the surface rust has worn off

I actually took the drums off, they're low ish but not on the metal yet. Might replace them in the spring.

Hi, everyone
I've not posted for a little while.
I was on my way home from work in the van when I started to hear a metallic scraping noise. At first I thought it was the car behind!
I pulled over down a lane, got out and had a cursory check - nothing.
Drove the last mile or two home, no more noise.
Took her out for a spin today - no noises.
Whipped the wheels off and had a check - nothing amiss.
Went for another spin, nothing.
I'm baffled!!

The last time that I was up near The Rest and be Thankful they were repairing the massive land slip there.

Didnt go away as Cumbria and SW Scotland looked a bit too wet

#36 Re: General Discussion » Fuel Crisis » 2021-10-06 21:03:11

I always keep the van full of fuel and packed.
It's my 'bug out' vehicle for zombie apocalypse, civil disorder, alien invasion etc

I'd love to do a foreign trip in my van.
Hope you have a great time.

Hi, I generally listen to the radio in the van on my travels; SW Scotland, West Coast, N.Wales etc
I lose the signal for R4 quite a lot and seem to be constantly having to fiddle with tuning all the time.
Does this happen to anyone else??

Hi, is there anyone in the Greater Manchester area that understands the proposed charges for diesel vehicles in the future?
I cut through on my way to work and dont fancy a daily charge!
Cheers

#41 Re: Camper Conversions » SW300 ish » 2021-08-15 13:35:11

I would quite happily buy a plot of land and put a shed on it for overnight stays up there. I had family at Annan when I was younger.

OAT - yes, I've bumped in to Ken in a nearby forest, he pops up everywhere.

Vaz - I drove past Turnberry and nearly left a little present for the owner on one of the greens

The need for a change of scenery was overwhelming the other day, so I headed to the border on my usual sort of route.
Crossed thr border and followed the Burns Heritage Trail around the coast line picking up the GTR. I stopped in a pull in near Creetown, a short road to a pumping station. 11.5 hrs sleep due to an extra mattress, bit like the Princess and the Pea.
Headed off for Newton Stewart, Wigtown ending up in the Isle of Whithorn. Followed the coast round to Stranraer stopping off at a few places. Headed up the coast through Ballantrae and across towards S.Lanarkshire though got diverted. Dropped down and picked up a takeaway in Sanqhar before parking up on the banks of the Nith south of Glencaple.
Headed back south via a friend near Carnforth.
Short trip but I'm having a funny old time and didnt want to be away for long.
Van performed faultlessly.
No real photos tbh.

PASS!!
She's passed the MOT once again, three minor advisories: corrosion, oil leak, grease on my brake pipes.
Well that's the summer holiday sorted!!

#45 Re: General Discussion » Tools - Halfords Advanced » 2021-07-03 12:04:33

My tools are a mixture, built up over the last 36 years; Draper seems to have lasted well, the old Kamasa stuff is better than the new, I've got a AF socket set from Halfords that must date from 1988, other stuff is stuff picked up over the years Britool, King Dick, Acesa, Elora, Gordon, Bedford etc
I've got some Halfords Advanced spanners which are fine.
I suppose any tools last well as long as you dont abuse them.
My son has some mirror polished Silverline spanners which seem to be lasting well.

#46 Re: General Discussion » Custom Steering wheel / Spine size » 2021-06-22 22:25:29

My steering wheel was scruffy, so scrubbed it and fitted a 'boy racer' steering wheel cover, the type that you sew on. It's lasted 5 hrs and only now looks tatty.

Quick report of my road trip.
Left SW Lancashire on Friday evening and drove north up to Scotland, stopped off fir a burger in Gretna and carried on coastal road through Annan, Cummertrees etc.
The free site at Caerlaverock was busy so I pulled in between there and Glencaple on some hard standing overlooking the R.Nith
Next day, in to Dumfries and picked up a few supplies, then out via New Abbey for a loo stop. Carrying on past Rockcliffe etc, stopping off in Palnackie to stretch my legs. Took a detour via the tank training grounds then I avoided Kirkcudbright because it looked busy. Took the Borgue road for a change then back on the busy road past Gatehouse, Creetown etc. Swung down towards Wigtown, pulled in at the old harbour fir a snooze and my tea. Carried on to Isle of Whithorn, busy there but parked near the car park overlooking the harbour.
Next day, round the coast Monreith, Port William etc to Glenluce. Crossed over towards Newton Stewart then through the forest on the Raiders Road. I was going to climb Cairnsmore of Fleet but declined, bit late on the day and still a bit too hot.
Carried on on the return leg, stopped at the car park in Caerlaverock to make tea then onwards to park outside Longtown for the night.
Good run home, called in to see a friend near Carnforth, avoided any serious traffic.

Loads of places to stay overnight, lots to see, ideal for a long weekend.

Photos to follow...

A man in a white Mk1 with fitted windows pulled out of the Tesco filling station in Dumfries and looked at me in my van, I think that he was thinking "he's one of us".

Do we need a secret sign or something?

It was only by chance that I accosted kenbw2 in the woods in his blue van.

(Btw, my sticker is on the back doors)
