Looks like fuse15 on the glove box panel but check it's the same as yours.

Neat new veg oil for me, and I think Ken too most of the time.   Not now though, it's dearer than diesel.

Only a splosh of diesel when freezing.  Mine will still start on veg in the frost but the chugging is awful.

Only just listened to the noise.  Sounded like a steam engine!  :0

Glad it's fixed.  How much?

they only need 3 sensors to start, and just 2 to sustain a run. the crank position, fuel pressure sensor, and cam position sensor. the cam sensor is only used while cranking the engine over then its not used when its running.

hope this helps!

That's a big chunk of very useful info in a nutshell there John, cheers.

Why is the cam position sensor required?

Surely its position is always physically dictated by gearing and it's always in a "known" position in relation to all other shafts?

In all the stuff about blower problems I have read, I am sure there was mention somewhere of getting only one speed (any speed) being directly related to the resistor.

I think I would be checking the scrapyards for a replacement.
A decent one might be expensive but replacing and recovering foam could be even more.

If you can't find any in a scrappy, there are cheap universal ones available.

They should be fine as a switch, it's just a question of getting a good seal with the provided gasket.

I could do with a bit more on the country lanes I use most.

Are they specific fog lamps or auxiliary driving lights?

Had my van 6 years and only just noticed it doesn't have a rear fog light in recent few foggy days.

When did rear fogs become a requirement?

Not doubting your expertise in these areas John, but I don't understand how the internal/external flap could cause either the heater or the fan to be permanently on.

Is it possible that something could have dropped past the gaiter and into the linkage?

My gaiter fell to bits and has not been replaced and I have twice lost gears by things falling in and jaming.

Can't help with pub stopovers, (exept closed down ones wink)

The Harbour at Blantyre is only a short stagger from the pub.  Wigtown's harbour not so close.  Interesting place though.  It was where we used to send our "undesirables" off to Botany Bay from.  (Of course we wouldn't do anything remotely similar in our more civilised and enlightened era!)

Glen Trool has another forest drive down to Bruce's Stone worth a look and good if you want a quiet night or two.  Or a great spot if you wish to ambush any one.

I preffer the inland areas as the A7 tends to bring all the trafic along the coast.  Far more park ups too.

Is it a standard Clarion radio?

If so there is a code calculator tool which produces the code from the serial number.  Works with serial numbers in the format:- C7000 0000xxxx.  It used to be a widely available free download but have just checked and can now only find people offering to do it for a price.

I posted a link to the download ages ago but just checked and it's no longer working.

It may still be available in the darker reaches of the net?

#215 Re: Maintenance » Coolant light » 2022-10-21 19:43:25

I recently had an embarrasing experience with my coolant level.

It started during the extreme hot days we had on a day of steep hills followed by motorway.  It started occasionaly flickering and I found I could affect it by lifting or depressing the throttle.  I didn't know what it was indicating as I had never seen it before.  A closer look showed it to look like a shower head suspended over a pool of liquid.

But I already had it in my head that it was oil related due to the hard miles and hot temps.  So I saw it as a typicaly French, surrealist symbol of a sump and oil return.  I know it sounds daft but I was a bit panicked as I had many miles to do in the next few days and had "oil problem" fixated in my brain.

After what turned out to be an unneccissary oil and filter change there was obviously no difference.  After a lot of head scraching I was at the point of cancelling arrangements and taking it in for an oil pressure test.  At this point someone stopped and asked what the trouble was.  As I explained, I turned on the ignition to show the warning light.  "Isn't that your coolant level" he asked!

It has rarely needed a drop in 6 years and didn't even look low when I checked it.  But about 1/2" of water and no more light.

What an idiot!

Yea I plan to tidy up the cables, they're a bit of a mess. I'm thinking about using something more compact than the chunky MC4 connectors. Not sure yet

200W panel is gonna sit on the ground and be a boost for when I'm more static

Good idea.  Get a decent length lead and on hot days it would allow for parking in the shade too.  An underestimated advantage I think.

even with a new fan, mechanic couldn't get no power supply on- seemed terminal, just put the most bits back together and driving off (lost radio code) suddenly I've heard humming- (new) fan worked!... only the next morning to try to demystify windows- not again.

Strange you should say that.

I did mine a few years back and still have occasional times when it doesn't start up.  It can always be persuaded by simply wiggleing the sleeved bunch of wires leading to the blower.  I have checked all the connections and they are tight and bright.  Only needs the slightest touch on the loom though and will work for days/weeks till it happens again.

Not got around to investigating further or fixing as I soon get very dizzy when laying backwards in the footwell.

Casper wrote:

Think it was a post on the Fiat forum i read where you turn the knob 180 anti clockwise and pull. Dono if true but worth a try

Could be something in that.

The ridges that hold it on are only machined on the corners of the square end of the lever.  I would expect the required rotation would be more like 22.5...112.5...202.5 or 292.5 deg.  (the diagonals not the right angles)

What I think happens in reality though is that after much huffing, puffing and random twisting and pulling, it sudenly lets go and you ram it in your eye with your full force.

I would be worried about those cables too.  Narrow lanes with overhanging trees?

So there might be a tatty 200W going cheap?

#220 Re: Maintenance » Re mk1 Dispatch gear knob. » 2022-10-13 16:34:10

I have tried two cheap universal repacements but neither have lasted long.  They are held on by deep ridges on the stick which look like threads but aren't.  The rubber inserts on the universal ones I tried don't grip very well and soon strip.

I too would be grateful for any recomendation of one that works.

Mine is a mk1.

Hoping all goes well.  It really shouldn't be this difficult.  At least with sellers confirmation of fitment ebay will force refund if not correct.

I may have missunderstood but are you saying that you need both a fan unit AND a resistor?

If so, I was under the impression that the new units came with a resistor fitted.  Mine did and it looks like those you listed do.

I have tried to look up the new one I bought from ebay but it was so long ago it is not showing in my purchased items list.  But neither of those you linked to look like mine.  The shape of the rotor and rear cover moulding are different. But the resistor block is also totaly different.  May be irrelevant variations?

This is the one that looks visualy the same as mine:-

I didn't pay that much for it though.  It was £30 - £40.

There is some strange marketing going on with these.  A least three different sellers using identical adds

JYes, quite impressive for the "lowlands"!

The car parks used to be free camping too.  Now fiver a night if the warden can be bothered.

Great time at the festival, and absolutely no cowboys or line dancing.  smile

Hoping Ken might have some pics to post?

Posting pics is a bit tricky, there is an explanation somewhere.

I tend to use the upload facility to put them on the sites servers then insert to the post.  This means they are less likely to be lost than an external link.

Can't help with your seat questions but bear in mind you could possibly bolt alternative seats onto existing base.  Would mean no new holes in floor and give you a wider choice of seat.
