Looking smart 16vdady, from an alfa and in black. Really make the van.
Smart looking van.
Welcome along 16vdady.
Which wheels have you opted for? I put some 807 alloys on my 53 plate 1.9d expert when I had it.
Hi Dispatcher,
That's a fairly comprehensive list, I can tick a few of them items off having been done on my own van over the last couple of years.
Need to do a little paint work on mine too, the side loading doors sills as they get rubbed alot. Then the leading edge on the rear wheel arches.
Like you I wanted to get rid of the black smoke under acceleration, that's when I ended up replacing loads of items.
Like to tinker abit myself, but having a brother who's a mechanic is good as he has all the tools etc that help get stuff like wish bones, changed mine last year along with drop links etc. Always doing little things and adding bits to it, much to the wife's annoyance.
Latest accessories are led side bars, front A bar, wolfrace alloy wheels and the new sony xav-ax8050d bead unit.
To be fair it's coming up due for a service, so will probably get on to that over the next week or two.
The glory days of the trucking industry vaz, I must admit I probably saw the very last days of the manual boxes so never got to drive an Eaton twin, although remember when I first started out learning as much as I could about the different types of box out there.
My father in law was a driver all his working life and he remembers the days of log books and no speed limits well. Bit before my time to be honest ?
I have to admit though that I do love technology and like the new trucks that are on the market today, but as with anything now the electronics over time will no doubt bring with them lots more problems than they've solved.
I remember driving my first actros megaspace mp2, fully automatic and that took a while to get used to the gearbox, but once used to it loved it and have had a certain of admiration for the actros.
Do especially like the Volvo's and if I could an early fh like the one Volvo have just rebuilt for the fh anniversary I'd be happy to hook it up.
I believe the fh now goes upto 750 as well, handy to have that power on tap when fully freighted going up anything!
I too like you have toyed with the idea of turning a 40ft trailer into a camper, perhaps got hold of an erf ecx Olympic. Mainly for nostalgia with the erf, as they used to be built near where I live many moons ago, although not sure if the ecx would have been. Perhaps something to research.
Thanks for the link ?
Love the T-shirt Vaz, think I should get 1!
Driven a few manual wagons in my time with manual boxes.
Payload is 1200kg, gvw 2900kg so theoretical unladen weight of 1700kg.
Just rechecked tow capacity its 1400kg for the 1.6hdi, so train weight 4300kg.
Had it on a weigh bridge and it was a smidge under 2.9t, fully loaded that is. Not sure what it is empty with just the driver.
Its plated at 2.9t with a train weight of 4.9t, not that I'd like to try it out. Traction is bad enough when its fully loaded with stuff for work. Down side to being front wheel drive I suppose.
Having said that traction has improved somewhat having had to replace a busted drive shaft not long ago.
I must say that with my van fully weighted at around 2.9t and a trailer but to be fair only 750kg it still motors along quite well.
Not sure how it would be with the maximum allowed tow weight, which of the top of my head is 2t.
Morning Vaz,
You're not pissing on anyone's thunder, I just happen to like the van overall. Has the engine had problems yes, has it cost a lot to put it right yes but probably a lot less than had it had been a dreaded VW.
I previously had the DW8 myself and it was a cracking van to be fair, only swapped it because I needed something a little bigger.
In relation to Fords 2.4 Duratoq engine my brother runs 2 of these, both serviced at 5000 miles and both vans have now had 3 engines so from my experience it doesn't really matter what engine you go for it doesn't guarantee that it'll be any good.
I really like the van, much under rated to be honest. When I first got mine I ended up having to have the gearbox rebuilt best part of £650 not including the clutch or the labour for taking it out and back in, luckily my brother is a mechanic so I let him do the hard work for a few beers.
Then when we did the timing belt found that the timing was out, so rectified that and it seemed to improve the running a good bit. Still wasnt 100% so did a bit of investigation and then that's when the parts list really started to grow:
New boost pipes
Air inlet manifold
Turbo
EGR seal
All new injectors
Having said that, it probably cost a lot less than a VW to fix, and I dont like to follow the crowd!
Mine just needs a couple of bits of paint sorting, around the rear arches then to finish putting on the little extras I dont tell the wife about.
What bits need doing on yours?
Yeah definitely not a cheap do for tyres on the wagons and trailers. I'd go with you on the new quality tyre on the steer axle.
A mate of mine just uses cheap as possible tyres on his 15ton ridge, and I suppose they're ok but he's never thought about anything other than initial cost of buying them, which to me seems silly considering how much of an effect they can have on the other running costs of the vehicle.
I've been fortunate in my time driving wagons that I've not had a steer tyre blow out, but seen a few and it looks a pretty scary place to be if it catches you off guard.
The most recent tyre issue I had a a wagon was about 2014 and the middle nearside wheel on the trailer locked on. Luckily I was only a mile from the services, so rather than sit on the heard shoulder dragged it to the safety of the services. It was empty as well, but still rubbed it down to the cords!
I'm with you in that vaz, not heard of mytyres before will have to check them out when I next need to replace mine.
Welcome along Dispatcher
I've a 2009 peugeot expert 1.6hdi, L2 H2.

I usually go with a specific van tyre for my current van. On the 53 plate I had I went with the extra load type tyre so a tyre suitable for an mpv or alike.
These are the true I have currently, but in the size for my 53 plate, I've found them to be very goid:

These are their own brand tyre, which have same load rating as the vantra and the same tyre efficiency rating. I tend to look at the efficiency rating when buying and try to balance the best efficiency all round so wet grip, fuel economy and noise against cost:

Hope this helps.

Have you tried : Www.blackcircles.com
Usually get some good prices on there.
Mine are 215/60/R16 and with wheel alignment cost £220 all in. Used a local tyre place called selecta tyres.
My brother runs all his work place Van's on the Hankook vantra tyres and he swears by then, each van does about 50,000 miles a year.
Looking great with the alloys, had a set of 807 alloys on my 53 plate. Set the look of the van off perfectly.
What tyres do you have on there?
I've some Hankook vantra's on my 09 expert, find they're a really good tyre for the van.
I'm currently in the process of doing so alterations to the van, mainly overtime convert into a stealth camper.
Any how, I needed somewhere to fit a bank of switches including 2 for the heated seats when they go in. So I found the perfect position on the dash below the stereo, but I'd fitted a double din kenwood unit, so I purchased a replacement centre trim and set about looking for a replacement head unit, it needed to have dab, bluetooth and a screen for the reverse camera.
After some thought I went with the Sony xav-ax8050d, which I purchased from halfords as they had £130 off the price so happy days. Old trim and head unit out, new trim and stereo in. Happy with it now it's in, as wasn't too sure about having the screen permanently and predominantly on display, but I suppose a lot of new cars are like that now.

My 53 plate 1.9D was a standard obd.
Mine was an xtrons bluetooth one.

Used it with a tablet running torque no problem:

Hi Mx19,
It's a problem that I've not had with mine. Had plenty of others though.
Have you carried out any electrical tests on both the switch and the motor?
Does the drivers side window operate correctly? Just to confirm the same fault occurred when using both switches?
I noticed today too, went on to get some part numbers for the van as doing a little conversion so wanted part numbers for the interior trim in the rear.
Decided to just pay the €6 for an hours access and screen printed the parts etc I was interested in.
Will have to give your link a try tee_cee
Mines just been in this afternoon, its having a short stay at the garage as it needs rear spring and I couldn't be bother6to do it myself this time.
I've fitted a kenwood double din head unit to mine, needed to purchase the additional surround and harness adapter. Cut out the bar in the middle and all fitted easily.
Hi Fraz,
Great video.
Did the cruise control on mine not long back.
Did your van have the power fold mirrors from factory? Or did you retro fit them?
I've fitted a towbar to my 2009, fairly straightforward to be fair. Although I did purchase the wiring kit from Peugeot and it is a plug and play piece of kit that fits just in front of the rear lights on the passenger side. The wiring goes from the towbar up through a grommet on the passenger side, literally through the floor. I've a few pictures I think somewhere, will try to post them up later.
