I'm running 100% no bother. Farmfoods is the cheapest. 10 litre bottles are 2 for £16, and vouchers can be printed from the internet for up to 10% off. Although this is soya oil which isn't as good as rapeseed or sunflower for temperature resistance.
I get a bit of hunting from a cold start, maybe 10 seconds at most, then it settles to a smooth idle. I get this at ANY ambient temperature though. If you're having further problems, check the clear fuel line for air. The filter housings are known weak points for air ingress, but it's worth replacing the seals as it's a heated filter housing. There's also the "penny trick" to make it a permanently heated housing and not by thermostat (it's own thermostat, not the coolant one that the housing is mounted on)
I add 2ehn to a 1:1000 ratio normally, or 1:500 when I'm feeling giddy boo (heavy towing etc) which helps cold starts, and the loss of power and economy from using veg - it raises the cetane back to roughly what diesel is.
I'll start consider adding diesel at around -3 degrees, then add maybe 25% Derv, but it doesn't need any more than that
I've got the same. Synergie, but same difference.
Plug on bumper, wire up through the corner vent behind the bumper, trip switch box thingy in the side compartment behind the wheel arch, then feed to what you want. Mine has a 6amp smart charger I've wired in (considering upgrading a bit to about 10) and 2 x 3 pin sockets in the car
This is the only pic I've got that gives an idea sorry

For reference, a back box isn't required at MOT. Not helpful now I know but thought it might be of interest. When I bought mine I saw on the mot history "back box missing" as an advisory. I thought surely it's a typo but sure enough when I went to view the car, no back box! Soon ordered and fitted one though because the fumes in the car were awful!
I'd take the manifold off and see if you can see the valves. That's where the build up would likely cause an issue. It would (should) burn off of there is any in the cylinders
Is there enough space to squeeze in another fan and have it on a switch? Just for emergencies and steep hills??
I wouldn't have thought so. It may be that it's normal and I'm just being paranoid, that's why I'm trying to find out if anyone else has a similar experience
Nice to see you being accused of being the pikey for a change
Gypsies and pikies are not the same thing. I'm offended now!
£100 and I'll throw in a free dog
Mummy, Mummy the shows are in town
£5 a ticket
Gave my synergie it's first test run with the caravan yesterday. Caravan is 1500kg gross, probably around 1300kg without all our kit in it. Surprisingly for a TD (xud) it pulled it fairly well. Struggled uphill but kept up to speed without being too slow. Very stable too which surprised me. Only thing I noticed, up the long hills (not that long, I only did a 20 mile run) longest hill might have been a mile maybe, from a standing start at full throttle, the engine got to about 100°c. It could be me being paranoid, but I'm wary of longer hills on hot days..... Does anyone tow heavy and if so what do you find to be a normal temp for it to get to?
Worth noting, the coolant seems to be just water so I'll be giving it a good flush soon and fill with the right antifreeze, this may help cooling efficiency. Radiator fan works fine too. I'm considering replacing the radiator in case it's corroded inside reducing its efficiency. But then again, it could be completely normal and my paranoia causing me to do unnecessary work lol

Yes I know it needs a clean...... It's been sat next to the house for a year, will be getting cleaned soon
I use my phone as a WiFi hotspot. I use it regularly as I'm an hgv driver who works away. I pay something like £28/mth, sim only, I get I think 500 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited data, including tethering
I've considered the option of getting wiper arms off a newer model from a scrap yard or something. I'm assuming the newer facelift models have the same wipers
Has anyone ever replaced the springs in the wiper arms? Mine don't have much force anymore and affects the wipers performance a fair bit. I've seen universal springs that for over the arms, but they're a bit ugly. New wiper arms are 70 odd quid a piece from dealers and I'm not £150 bothered. Not seen anything else anywhere though. Any suggestions? Cheers
Little update, I ran out of time to do anything significant before we set off, so all I did was give the engine (and particularly the filter housing) a quick blast with the jet wash at work, drove home, checked it was dry then just lathered the thermostat bit in silicone sealant that mentioned suitable with fuel. Happy to report, absolutely no problems so happy days
I have to ask, why is everyone saying Bob? I don't get it.
Not to form a preconceived conclusion, but can I just point at the last three digits of his reg?
I'm not calling it Yoda. Maybe if it was green, then maybe. But only maybe. It's not called Yoda. Not happening
I've just done a trip give from Spain and calculated mpg by brimming as accurately as I can. I tried on the way down but something on the dash slightly pressed the trip reset button and sent it to random numbers. I did work it out roughly and it was 35 or 37mpg ish. Most of it was motorways doing 80/85mph.
This was on the way home

First one (top right) was Spain (just south of Barcelona) over the Pyrenees and half way up France to just south of orléans, 90% avoiding tolls so a lot of it doing 60ish and going through the odd towns.
2nd, we were running a bit behind so toll roads came into play, so most of it sat at 80/85.
3rd was Dover to bacup, and back on veg (50/50) I'd you want to factor that in.
It could be argued I'm cheating because by car is a synergie therefore slightly better aerodynamics than a van, but it was loaded up with people stuff, including a Towbar mounted luggage rack so that balances it out I suppose

It's an 1.9td xud. Normally I generally get around 34mpg average day to day on 100% veg
No not zeta. That will send me down a world of modifying
Rocinante could work...... Although I'll confess I had to Google that one lol
I was wondering what Bob was about. I've sussed what you mean now. Why Bob? I'm a bit strict on names. I don't always name cars and it's not down to if I like the car or not either. It's got to earn a name / have a came come to it. And it's got to be specific to this car. It can't be something that would relate to any car of the same model etc. I feel a name has come to it but I don't know what it is. Something Italian is a thought, just because it's hot the square plate like an Alfa, and Alfa wheels. Neither were intended to be Alfa like, but I've got a history of changing cars (I had a seat Alhambra that I turned into a ford galaxy - that was called raccoon because it was a silver car that had aftermarket headlights and radiator grille from the galaxy before it [they were actually for a vw Sharan] that were black. I intended on colour matching them but the name raccoon came, so I couldn't. I blended them instead lol)
Just been on holibobs to Spain. Comparing other cars and vans with very strange names
Here's [really needs a name] poking it's head through the trees

Worked it's little socks off, flawlessly

Ricko wrote:What motor would you go for??
To be fair the 2.0 HDI is not really a bad motor (Far superior than the current offering of 1.6HDI) as long as we can stay away from VV Turbo's...... stick with a "Normal" one and of course avoid the FAP (DPF) for as long as possible.... I'm pretty sure we're lumbered with dual mass fly wheels now...............
These things become an issue over time for one reason or another........ it's not IF but When they give trouble will be Heartache That is true of all mechanicles those will just arrive much sooner for a given life span
And fair play to kenbw for the use of veg oil HDI's will just not tolerate it and as Ricko has discovered Some decent and not necessarily old or abused Hdi's are or are starting to suffer some electrical gremlins.........
(This is grumpy old man mode isn't it)
I think I'd need the extra grunt...............
We run my wife's Picasso 2.0hdi on 50/50 veg and it's fine on it
Just to update, I didn't take anything apart in the end as I didn't have time. I lathered the outside of the thermostat bit of the filter housing in silicone and it has worked a treat
That's a fair idea actually. Not sure why I didn't think of it lol
Dealer say they don't sell the o rings separately and went to sell me the housing thermostat and bottom seal....... £128!!!!!
Does anyone know what size the o rings are so I can get them from elsewhere please. Need to get them today or tomorrow and get the problem fixed Thursday. Main ones, bottom one (8) because they're always going, and the ones around the thermostat (A) because I think that's where my problem is
Cheers
I find it's the best way. Plans are boring. We went on a random drive and ended up in Poland once. As you do
I didn't plan it as such. Stopped at a campsite in Mamer, but because I'm a Muppet and didn't think, hadn't planned on the fact that 99% of Europe is closed on a Sunday. Ended up having to drive all the way across to the other side of Luxembourg and find a place just off the German border. Remich I think it was. That was a long drive from one side of the country to the other. Must have taken at least 20, maybe even 25 minutes!

It generally gets washed every Friday at work with the jet wash so cleaning isn't too much of an issue. Not looking forward to when I sand and repaint them though lol
